PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - It was a thrilling time for multiple award-winning songbird Yuna (Yunalis Zarai) when she was given a shot at international stardom by performing live on late-night talk show Conan, hosted by Emmy award-winning host Conan O'Brien in Los Angeles.
In her three-and-a-half-minute performance on Monday, she sang her latest single, Live Your Life, a jazz number produced by hip hop rapper/singer Pharrel Williams.
This first experience of being on national TV in the United States was an unforgettable one, Yuna said.
"It is a huge opportunity to promote my music across the States. I hope the American audience likes my music. It is the best way to showcase your talent and what you are all about. Plus, I am a huge fan of Conan O'Brien, so it was a wonderful experience meeting him," said Yuna in an e-mail interview.
The pop rock/folk singer is in Los Angeles to promote Live Your Life and her debut self-titled album.
Yuna, 25, said she was surprised as to how she was selected for a slot on Conan.
"The music director of Conan is always looking for musicians to perform on the show. I was fortunate to be on their list," Yuna said.
The album, which will be released in Europe and the United States on April 24 under New York recording company Fader Label, will be available in Malaysia at a later date.
The Kedah-born singer believes that all artistes can realise their dreams by persevering.
Red FM will be airing an interview with Yuna fresh from her appearance on Conan on April 12.
