^ Hmm interesting. I did a reverse but it wasn't after his death. For the first few years, I was like "what?!" but then when I played it one year, I found myself really digging it. I played it more oddly enough after his death though.

I notice I play a lot of his darker songs more after his death. It's weird.

Yeah I've been playing this track, Is It Scary and some tracks like that.

Especially if your sources are Deepak and Cascio. Can't believe much of what those guys say.
But controversy aside, this is a genius song. Great post! The salvation of man is through love and in love. - Dr. V. Frankl

I LOVE this song but was very lightheaded after his death for a very long time, so I wasn't reacting the way I thought I would have. It's eerie and haunting now. I liked it when it came out, though I didn't understand what the song was about at all and didn't take it seriously at all thinking it's make believe or about Debbie (right? lollll) cause I was young and didn't know the whole 93' story yet, but lines like "don't cry I won't convert you" used to make me laugh, though now it's not funny at all and I understand addiction better in general. After a few months of BOTDF though, I thought it sounded outdated and ignored it and it became an album I enjoyed on and off for years though I wasn't calling it his best, but now with time, I really do believe it's one of his best and learned along the way they were outtakes from Dangerous and HIStory, plus I enjoy louder music with rock and funk, sometimes industrial elements more often than that time, so it's easier to enjoy now.
But back to Morphine, I do think it's a masterpiece and haunting and I guess his anger sounded frightening when I was younger, but the rage is relatable now and knowing the history behind the making of the song makes it easier to appreciate. I love that piano interlude too [Edited 2/20/12 19:38pm]

This thread is one reason why the MJ sticky needs to go away.. it's already reached 2 pages in a little over 12 hours, while there's hardly anything going on in the sticky.. and it's really nice to see some new people (those who don't use the sticky) talk about Michael's music.
Sorry for getting off-topic ... I never loved "Morphine" .. I did love the middle part, but didn't really like the rest. Since you all are praising it so much, I'll have to go back and listen to it again. Personally, I liked "Superfly Sister" better.
I do too. There may not be another "Billie Jean" or "Beat It" in there - that is, there might not be another huge hit in there, but I think he's probably made a lot of great music that hasn't been released yet. A lot of outtakes that have been released (legally or otherwise) I think were great.

I LOVE that song very experimental

Everything doesn't have to be compared to Billie Jean or Beat It, that's silly. Streetwalker being released was a pleasant surprise though, I remember some calling it better than anything else on Bad though it's an amazing album, and at one point I thought it could have been his 6th number one easily and like the Billie Jean of the Bad album. I'm so glad it was included on the MJ experience game.

I remember when I heard 'sister married to a hood, saying that she got it good' I thought he meant Latoya at first what can I say? I was a weird kid, though in my teens when it came out [Edited 2/20/12 21:51pm]

It was a pretty cool track. He should have made a video for all of those songs. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

Well there's BOTDF, Ghosts, Is It Scary and the HIStory video. Plus the Refugee Camp remix of BOTDF from the single, those mixes are brilliant. I wonder the Morphine video would have been like.

For me, in the discography of MJ, there are two very dark and depressing songs that I can not say I love, but they have the charisma and magnetism: Morphine and Little Susie. I think I like "Susie" more.

i guess they didn't put streetwalker on the bad album because the sound of it is perhaps a bit too close to 'the way you make me feel'?
i remember when i first heard it tho, it's such a good track. truly excellent.
as for 'morphine', i've always kind of liked michael jackson's albums but i've never been a real fan. i'll listen to them on occasion and always think "wow, he's really good" but then i just forget about them for another 6 months until i 'rediscover' them.
"morphine" is one of the few mj tracks that when i first heard them i put on repeat over and over again. it's just so hard and in your face and yet so incredibly vulnerable with that middle part. great stuff. i like it when people sing about something close to them, no matter how dark the subject matter.

All I meant by bringing those songs up is that I don't think there's another song in the vault that could be a huge hit; but I do think there's some great songs, that just aren't hit-material.

Funny how I rarely listen to his hits. I loves his hidden jams.
As for Morphine. that piano part is heavenly. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

I LOVE Little Susie and I do prefer it over Morphine even though Morphine is good to... I love the Dutch inspired production of Little Susie

I agree with all of this.
"Billie Jean" was the song that introduced me to Micahel, but I really can barely stand listening to it now.. I think it's the fact that it's overplayed (very, very overplayed), but I wouldn't put it in my top 10 MJ songs. Not "Beat It" or "Thriller" either..
The middle part of Morphine is perfect. The rest of the song is meh.. I listen to it just for that middle part.

Yes, although Billie Jean - definition of perfect pop songs, I have not listened to the song for almost a year and I doubt very much that one day I want to hear it again.

Billie Jean is actually one of my favorite MJ songs still, even though it's played way too much. Along with Human Nature, it's probably the only major MJ hit song I love with all my heart.
