Madonna is getting all the LUV with record extending 38th top 10 hit The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," due March 26 (which sports an "L-U-V, Madonna!" cheerleader chant), becomes her 38th Hot 100 top 10, pushing her further ahead of runners-up the Beatles (34).
Madonna first reached the chart's top tier the week of June 16, 1984, when "Borderline" rose to its No. 10 peak. She had last ranked in the region with "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, the week of June 28, 2008.
Here is a look at the artists with the most top 10 songs in the Hot 100's 53-year history:
38 -- Madonna 34 -- the Beatles 28 -- Michael Jackson 28 -- Stevie Wonder 27 -- Mariah Carey 27 -- Janet Jackson 27 -- Elton John 25 -- Elvis Presley (whose career predates the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception) 23 -- Whitney Houston 23 -- the Rolling Stones
As previously reported, "Luvin'" jumps 7-6 on the Digital Songs survey with 165,000 downloads sold (up 44%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The period encompassed the first full week following Madonna's performance of the song at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis (Feb. 5).
The track, slides, however, 28-59 on the Radio Songs chart (20 million audience impressions, down 54%, according to Nielsen BDS). "Luvin' " had benefitted last week from special promotion on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's more than 50 monitored pop stations, which played it at the top of every hour from Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. ET until the big game's kickoff.
Check Billboard.com tomorrow (Feb. 16), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 in its entirety and the Digital Songs and Radio Songs charts, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday.

I talk shit about Madge all the time, but you have to give her credit.
I swear I think she has sold her soul to the devil to become this succesful. Either that, or Americans are just really fucking stupid people with low standards. Who knows, could be both.

If they're gonna include the J5/Jacksons' top ten hits, might as well include Paul's, Ringo's, George's and John's top ten hits after they left the Beatles.

Lol? Did Ringo and George even have any? I know John and Paul definitely had a good bit.
Different situations though. The Beatles kind of all made eachother, they wrote lyrics and music and played instruments. I think you remove any one of the 4 from the equation and it's just not the same.
The Jackson 5/Jacksons were more studio backed by the Motown machine and later on Gamble and Huff.
I just think they should count for the simple fact that Michael Jackson was the entire Jackson 5/Jacksons. If Michael was never born and they had 8 kids instead of 9, the Jacksons would still be living in Gary, Indiana right now. That group was literally nothing without Michael Jackson.

Yeah all of the ex-Beatles had number-one hits and top ten singles after leaving the group in the early '70s.
Paul's top ten hits/number-one's: "Another Day" "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" "Ebony & Ivory" "Take It Away" "The Girl is Mine" "Say Say Say" "No More Lonely Nights" "Spies Like Us"
John's top ten hits/number-one's: "Instant Karma" "Imagine" "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" "#9 Dream" "(Just Like) Starting Over" "Woman" "Watching the Wheels" "Nobody Told Me"
George's top ten hits/number-one's: "My Sweet Lord" "Isn't It a Pity" (credited as a second number-one though it was the b-side to MSL) "What Is Life" "Got My Mind Set on You"
Ringo's top ten hits/number-one's: "It Don't Come Easy" "Back Off Boogaloo" "Photograph" "You're Sixteen" "Only You and You Alone" "No No Song"

I think that nasty bitch is motivated by money. Smart whore, she is.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Damn...didn't know that.
But I guess that sort of proves my point. Those guys all had tons of musical talent and could go off on their own.
How many solo #1's, Top 10's did Jackie, Tito, Marlon, or Jermaine have? Any?
Tito was actually a really good guitar player, just couldn't sing at all. Marlon and Jackie were nothing more than dancers. Jermaine? Lol. Poor guy. To this day he doesn't realize he sucks at singing and that his music is garbage. Although he is a pretty good bass player- I have to give him that. [Edited 2/15/12 21:25pm]

Marlon didn't have a top ten pop hit, just one song that only became a hit on the R&B charts. Tito never released a solo album or had a solo hit. Jermaine had two top ten hits (Daddy's Home and Let's Get Serious) on the Hot 100. Jackie never did.

Whatever she's motivated by, she's winning. Her success is massive, concrete, upstages virtually ALL of her peers and is in the record books. While people who admit to talking shit are completely powerless to stop her from being successful. [Edited 2/15/12 21:49pm]

Unfortunately, you are right. Sad, mediocre world we live in.
I don't care that she's so succesful. I just don't understand it, but then again Lil' Wayne is probably the biggest thing in the music industry right now and has been for the past few years...so......props to Madonna to opening the door for talentless hacks everywhere.
