I'll bet plenty women ran their fingers thru that gorg mane during what El coyly referred to as "social life"! lol We all know he was telling nothing but the truth on his DJ Quik stuff! wink

Juices and berries is from Coming To America. lol Prince Akeem goes in to have a haircut, and the barber is trippin off of his hair. He asks if Prince Akeem has chemicals, and he says no, juices and berries.

Barber: Got damn boy, that some kind of weave or something?

Prince Akeem: That is my natural hair. I have been growing it since birth.

Barber: Well shit, what kinda chemicals you got in there?

Prince Akeem: I have put no chemicals, only juices and berries.

Barber: Shit, that ain't nuthin but an Ultra Perm.

I couldn't go to the local wrecka stow when they were there. Talk about disappointed. That was the talk at school with the girls though. They sure were fine, beautiful people. El had long ringlets of curls, they looked like living dolls, until they opened their mouths lol Black don't crack, but some of theirs has cracked. El still looks good compared to the rest.

Geez guys...here I am, your handy dandy Tommy spiller and El just blew shit up again. cool I wonder if he read this book and if it has something to do w/ the present sitch? Tommy spilled tons of family secrets that El seems to just disappear. sad I've been re-reading the book and seriously proceesing what was said because the book is very dense w/ info and trying to decide what to post. As this new sitch (El popped for dealing) has shown Tommy's tale, I fear, is the tip of the tip of the iceberg.

Damn it's hard to be a De Barge stan! lol confused eek Tho I am rocking "Queen of My Heart" '83 version.

Yup and Greg knows where the bodies are buried (not literally...I hope). That cat knew Bobby (in how many ways...including Biblicly?! wink ) and all them back to at least the early Grand Rapids days, so he saw some stuff popp off, using El's phrase. He said the old man was a psychopath and I have no cause to doubt him.

I'm not sure, but I think Darrell is the only De Barge male not to have served time. smdh

Yeah you're right. Sounds like Darrell is in the straight and narrow at least and is the only DeBarge son to learn from his brothers' and sister's mistakes (I think Carol is drug free too). But yeah Darrell has not served time least I can tell.

sad sad sad More bad news for this family. I hope he's able to get help, & get well! 3 of them went on Dr. Drew. Was El too private to do that?

I didn't go to the last concert that El did. My friend went to one last year, & said he was really late showing up. Another time, he didn't play at all at a show that a radio station gave. I saw the video posted from the last show, and it didn't look or sound great, IMO. I know El said he was sick, but it was kinda all over the place. sad Just sad all around.

Yeah. El's given some interviews on the matter and things like that, but he's very reticent to go past a certain point about things. Given that his mother, sister, and now brother have gone far and deep...I suspect he feels a bit pressed about it all. This guy seems to value his image and dignity, Tommy states this outright in the book. IMHO that's not at all a bad thing because nobody got sober being on a reality show type circus.

El might have been sick at that LA show, but he was also high as hell too. The two aren't mutually exclusive! lol He's been using for quite some time now IMHO....I honestly doubt he was sober 6 months after he got out. Methinks they went too hard and fast at jump startng his career. In fairness to El, he's worked consistently since he became horribly addicted.....when he was well enough. However, to take a 50 year old man so outta the game and throw him headlong into this crazy world of entertainment full stop...disaster was almost certain. sad

Sheesh, I'm mainly a classic rock fan, so addicted stars are not new to me....but this stuff w/ the De Barges is getting a bit extra! lol

Sobriety is hard for anyone in the biz, but w/ El it's so much more difficult I think. The duration of his addiction is far greater than most, then add all the pressures he's been under wrt his career, then whatever MamaD/baby mama stuff, etc....I think his sitch is even more extreme than most addicts out there. He's a guy who's on the music charts, yet has no place to call his very own home.

Add to this that the combo of drugs he seems addicted to (heroin and crack) are particularly hard to kick.....this was bound to happen if you know the signs.

He does seem different from the siblings of his who put it all out there. I need to get Tommy's book.

You know, I didn't want to go to the show because I didn't want to chance it. One, El may show up late, & give a quickie show, or just not show up at all. I also didn't want to see him in that state, if that were the case. I didn't write any of that here at the time, because I didn't want to discourage anyone else from going (if that's what they wanted to do). Seeing a half done show with somebody who really does have talent is sad and unfortunate.

nod nod I do remember when it seemed as if El was on every award show or tribute, gospel & holiday show on BET. That man was everywhere! smile That's a lot for someone trying to re-adjust. He was also playing at clubs, doing promos, music festivals (or scheduled to, I don't know how many he officially made or did not). Yeah, again, a lot for someone who was in his situation, fresh out and getting back on track.

I hate to say it but there's too many parallels between El DeBarge and the fates of David Ruffin and Marvin Gaye. In the case of Marvin though, he never served no time for drug possession (but he was probably strongly protected unlike El and David for that matter). neutral I just hope he don't end out like them but who knows?

Nah...not Marvin, PapaD is dead! wink If I had to see this in someone else, I'd say Rick James minus the dealing aspect...but I truly see no others like him except his own brothers due to the dealing factor. It's a consistant theme w/ the De Barge men that sets them apart from other celeb drug stories. IMHO, that's why they've been popped more than not. El's the only one I can think of that had gotten busted for pure possession charges. This new bust changes that one. sad

Truthfully, I'm more surprised about James than I am about El. I can picture El dealing cuz he seems to have some of the toughness and brass that Bobby had, but James has always seemed too fundamentally soft to do it. Then again..Tommy dealt, so...

Does anyone know what went down between him and the Farmers? I suspect something ain't right w/ his money cuz he's SEEMED to have avoided dealing up to this point.

Well El has been popped a few times for domestic violence/assault against women. In fact, El\s 1st arrest was about abusing some girl at a college...it was around the time he CLAIMS he started using heavy. The last time was in 07 (I think it was his baby mama Monica that dimed him) and he lost a kid to the system w/ "Mrs El" (aka Melody)...so he ain't too far from Rick's crack pipe if you think about it. sad
