In all fairness to O'Bryan, "he" didn't have much say-so in the creation of 1996's "The Best Of O'Bryan." He basically did the interview for the liner notes, but the anthology was largely put together by The Right Stuff and disc jockey Kevin James. It's fair to say O'Bryan would not supervise the decision to add edited versions of three of his biggest hit songs, "I'm Freaky," "You And I" and "Lovelite."

In contrast, O'Bryan is co-leading the development of "You And I: The Very Best Of O'Bryan," as well as the mass production, marketing and distribution. This will be a much better presentation of his Captiol Records collection.

Well, it's the entire four O'Bryan albums minus:

"Mother Nature's Callin'"

"Shake"

"You Gotta Use It"

"Too Hot"

"Dreamin' About You"

"Surrender"

In addition, it's going to have the extended remix version of "Soul Train's A Comin" that was on the television show from 1984 to 1987, the extended remix version of "Driving Force" and extended versions of three other songs ("Right From The Start," "Lovelite" and "Breakin' Together").

Considering that none of O'Bryan's music has been in print for more than two decades, this is as complete and thorough of an anthology that can be created. That's not even including the packaging, which will be mostly of never-before published photos of O'Bryan, and it will have what I consider an attractive price point.

Before people start focusing on the six out of the 32 songs from O’Bryan’s Capitol catalog that did not make it (while ignoring the 26 songs -- as well as two previously unreleased songs -- that did make it), let's keep in mind that this is an anthology. It's not meant to have every last song from every album on the set. That would make it a complete collection.

Moreover, take this into consideration:

* 7 of the 8 songs from "Doin' Alright" are on the anthology.

* 7 of the 8 songs from "You And I" are on the anthology.

* 6 of the 8 songs from "Be My Lover" are on the anthology.

* 6 of the 8 songs from "Surrender" are on the anthology.

I have the 'You And I' album on vinyl....it'll be nice to finally have the tracks on CD (well,seven of em).

UPDATE:

In anticipation of his upcoming anthology, O'Bryan has posted a poll on his Facebook page asking people to choose which song will be on the CD and digital versions of "You And I: The Very Best Of O'Bryan."

O'Bryan is asking people to vote between the extended version of "Driving Force" (the second single from the album "Surrender") and "Dreamin' About You," also from O'Bryan's fourth album on Capitol:

One of these songs will be on the CD and digital versions of the anthology, while the other will only be on the digital version as a bonus track. Voters can go to O'Bryan's Facebook page and cast their vote. The poll will be open to the public through March 12.
