I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she was broke. But I need something concrete. Every article I've read is just speculation. And that one is no different.

Yeah a lot of things are really speculation at the moment. Everyone seems to wanna pitch in their two cents... reminds me of how they did Michael.

Whitney Houston's Portrait Hard to Swallow

0301_whitney_houston_pills_SplashCrack is whack, but pills are ... a work of art?

A portrait of late singer Whitney Houston made up entirely of pills has been created by mosaic artist Jason Mecier. In the past, Mecier has made similar portraits of Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Courtney Love among others.

Ibuprofen, Xanax, Midol and amoxicillin were some of the pills found in Whitney's hotel room when she died last month.

Gone But Never Forgotten: Whitney Houston Graces The Cover Of Essence Magazine

Posted on March 1st, 2012 - By BS/ Kcool

Essence Magazine pays homage to Whitney Houston by placing her on the cover of their April issue…

Whitney had “The Voice”. Before the term was even coined and show was ever thought of:

When she burst onto the scene in 1985, her self-titled album sold 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. With her second album, Whitney, she became the first woman to enter the Billboard album charts at number one.

Whether singing sophisticated pop ballads or soul-stirring gospel, her songs moved us to dance and to tears. Her unparalleled talent influenced an entire generation of young performers: Mariah. Beyoncé. Christina. Alicia. To millions she was pop royalty. But to those who knew her and loved her, she was the girl from Newark who was blessed with one of the greatest musical instruments of our time.

Will you be picking up the April issue?

NJ funeral home denies role in Whitney Houston casket photo but says it knows culprit’s ID

NEWARK, N.J. — The owner of the Newark, N.J., funeral home that handled services for Whitney Houston says the home had nothing to do with a photograph that surfaced showing the singer’s body in an open casket.

But Carolyn Whigham of Whigham Funeral Home and two pastors say they do know who took the photo that ran in the National Enquirer. They just aren’t identifying the person and say that’s up to the Houston family.

Whigham told The Star-Ledger of Newark (http://bit.ly/yrlGLr ) Thursday her funeral home “had no role in this shameful betrayal.” She was responding to what she says are claims that either she or her employees were involved.

The 48-year-old Houston died Feb. 11 in California. Whigham says she determined the photo was taken Feb. 17, a day before the funeral.

Except for Jet's, those are some pretty disappointing tribute covers. Of all the hundreds of fantastic photos of Whitney, those are the best shots these magazines could put together? confused

Whitney Houston's estate won't yield heirs any money for a long time because of huge debt

One estimate claims it would take 5 million album sales to get out of the red

If Whitney Houston’s heirs are counting on royalties from her record company Sony, they may soon feel like paupers.

On Wednesday, music-industry blogger Wayne Rosso quoted a label executive “familiar with Sony’s accounting” who said the late singer’s estate probably won’t see any royalty checks from her record label “in our lifetime” — and maybe longer — thanks in part to the number of advances and loans she took from the $100 million deal she cut with Sony Music in 2001.

On Wednesday, Rosso, an outspoken veteran of the music business who has consulted for CBS, Island, MCA, Arista and RCA Records, to name just a few labels, posted a report in his Wayne’s World blog titled, “Whitney to Sony: I Will Always Owe You.”

In it, Rosso estimated that Houston would have to posthumously sell more than 5 million albums “to repay her advances and start to get royalty checks. ”

Although sales of Houston’s music has seen a significant sales bump since her untimely death on Feb. 11, the eve of the Grammys, Rosso estimates that her greatest-hits album would have to occupy the No. 1 slot on the Billboard charts for the next six months to hit the goal.

In today’s fickle culture, Rosso’s source notes, “That ain’t going to happen.”

Rosso also writes that on top of the advances Houston took from her 2002 deal, the “How Will I Know” singer “consistently took out loans from the label” with her guardian angel “ Clive Davis ’ assistance.”

The blogger adds that the “last big loan was reportedly from Clive for $1.2 million, though everyone knows it came from Sony and not from Clive.”

A spokeswoman for Sony-owned RCA Records, which was Houston’s label, declined to comment.

Houston’s spokeswoman Jill Fritzo did not respond to a request for comment by deadline.

Rosso also quotes an insider who points out that Houston’s estate may face an even bigger problem in the long term: “They don’t have a smart guy like” the co-executor of Michael Jackson’s estate, John Branca , “who would have marched into Sony the day after Whitney died and renegotiated the deal,” said the source.

Rosso also quotes another Houston “loyalist” who notes that there’s been no real industry professional to look after Houston’s career and business opportunities since she broke with her manager, father John Houston, who died in 2003. (His company had negotiated her $100 million deal.)

In January, Radaronline quoted a source as saying Houston was essentially broke. “Whitney’s fortune is gone,” said a source close to the singer. “Music-industry heavy hitters are supporting her and her label is fronting her cash against her next album.” The source added: “She might be homeless if not for people saving her.”

Wow,this is sad disbelief Apparently, she was living off the huge advances from her label....all of which has to be paid back.

So, the reports were true after all, I can't say I'm all that surprised. Well, her fans could step-up and get her out of dept, its not impossible nor improbable. I've always admired fan loyalty and support of an artist/musician.

As far as the Hallmark card I saw it in Walgreens last year, at the time I thought how odd.

It's clear now why she never severed ties with the label. She was receiving advances against her royalties and securing loans. Perhaps more touring might have helped, but then again, you need money to tour.

^Yeah, I found the actual blog post about the Whitney/Sony deal, and its really interesting hmmm

According to a very highly placed industry source who is very familiar with the Whitney situation, the deal most likely looks like every major superstar recording contract these days. The deal would be something like this: 4 studio albums and 2 compilation album (Greatest Hits, Number One’s, something like that) with a $25 million advance for the first album (Just Whitney) and a $10 million advance for the second album (I Look To You). Tacked on to that advance would be the costs of the music videos at approximately $500,000 each (there was a total of 6 music videos produced under the new deal which would total approximately $3 million in costs). That would bring the total amount of money that Whitney Houston would owe Sony to approximately $38 million. Maybe more. Her royalty rate was most likely $4 per album, and the new deal would have reset all future royalty payments on past catalog. Any deficits in her royalty account up to that point were more than likely wiped out, according to the source, basically giving Houston a fresh start. This means that Whitney would have to sell at least 9.5 million albums to repay her advances and start to get royalty checks.

I am pleased with the People Magazine Whitney Tribute I purchased as its filled with photos, some going back to her early days as a model and commerical actress. There are family photos, photos from her life with Bobby, baby pics of Bobbi, and toward the end there is one section I can't stand but am still appreciate of the photos. Its called RAY OF HOPE. I don't have to tell you what the editor meant when they said "Ray". neutral

Michael had several different publishing companies where he wrote his music on and was still getting royalties on so it was easier for his estate to do what they did. I'll wait until I hear the truth about how much Whitney's estate was worth.

Cee Lo Green's Demo For Whitney

March 2, 2012

Link

Cee Lo Green is best known for his Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley days, dishing out advice on “The Voice” or that ubiquitously profane hit that burned up charts and made the Lady Killer a household name.

But Green has also spent a great deal of his career quietly penning tracks for other artists, including Jennifer Hudson, Brandy, Amerie and the Pussycat Dolls.

Green even came close to working with the late pop diva Whitney Houston. The fine folks at Bling47have unearthed a vintage (circa '07) demo that Green did for the singer. “All Alone Now,” which the record label posted Thursday, is a collaboration between Green and B47 co-founder Waajeed specifically for Houston.

“The A&Rs at RCA were calling every and anybody to find a sound for [what became the pop titan’s final album, 2009’s “I Look to You”]. I worked on seven or eight different versions, finally deciding on this one, with additional parts from Simon Katz from Jamiroquai,” they wrote in a post for the song.
“Lyrically, Cee Lo nailed it! At the time she was going though her very public separation with Bobby Brown. He wrote the words as if she was speaking directly to him.”

The downbeat pop tune didn’t make the cut, but fans of another big-voiced diva, Beyoncé, will recognize the tune as an outtake from her “I Am … Sasha Fierce” sessions. Her version, called "I'm Alone Now," features harder guitar riffs and synths, a haunting melody and lyrics about a a jilted lover trying to find confidence after a relationship has crumbled.

Though we’ll never hear how the song would have sounded had Houston sung it, listen to both Green’s original and Beyoncé’s take below:
