Well she did say in Sister2Sister that she was a "functional junkie" so she didn't go too overboard with her addiction but then again, I think Whitney's skin was due to genetics. She still looked youthful. It's kinda like El DeBarge. He's been known for years with drug abuse and while it ravaged some members of his family, he still looks handsome if a bit older. Marvin Gaye still looked handsome even when he was in the throes of his drug addiction though David Ruffin fell apart by comparison. shrug

True, I forgot about El. He was more hardcore than Whitney, however, his bro James looks a hot mess. Yep, genetics must factor in some way. Amazing.

Tommy, James, Randy and Marty looks the most rough, as did Bobby before his death. Bunny looked a mess in her first appearance on that show ("Lifechangers") but came back with her second appearance. El did have a rough period.

Whitney takes real good care of her skin. If U saw the tragic bathtub that Whitney was found in. One of the items in there was olive oil. Whitney uses that for her skin. El Debarge skin isn't as good as some may think. He has a lot of holes in his skin. Make up does wonders.

If you're referring to his face I believe those are acne scars. El had a real bad bout of acne in his younger days and people who get acne get it off and on throughout their lives and it sometimes leaves bad scarring. Now if the skin on his body is wrought with holes then I'd say that was the result of shooting up. sad

Agreed about the olive oil - its a great softener and Nippy's skin often looked like velvet. Very smooth with hardly any visible discoloration. Shit it was damn near flawless.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Whitney Houston's Family Asks Authorities To Find Out Who Leaked Death Scene Photos

Posted on Feb 28, 2012

By Jen Heger - Radar Legal Editor

Whitney Houston's family, spearheaded by her mother, Cissy, is asking law enforcement to look into death scene photos that were leaked to the media in the days after the pop superstar died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, including one pic of her body being wheeled out on the gurney in a body bag, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

A few days after Whitney passed away on February 11, a media outlet (not RadarOnline.com) published a photo of Houston in a body bag on a gurney being taken out of the hotel. The entire floor was on lockdown, and the area was secured by the Beverly Hills Police Department. There is surveillance video from the hallway of the person who took the picture of Whitney in the body bag, and the Houston family wants to know who it is and have asked for an investigation into the leak of the photos. The Houstons have been told by cops that after her case is officially closed, they can look into the matter.

It might not be the the Beverly Hills Police Department that would handle that, but this is very important to the Houston family to know. "They need and deserve to know who took the pictures, and if the person profited from it," a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com.

As we previously reported, Houston, 48, died after consuming a fa...nd alcohol on February 11, just hours before Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Some staffers at the swanky hotel were fired after they gave interviews or spoke to media outlets after Houston's death.

"The hotel employees that talked to the media were fired because theyviolated hotel policy," a source told RadarOnline.com. "They weren't high level employees, but the hotel didn't want anyone to talk about Whitney's tragic death."

There were tremendous efforts made when Houston's body was removed from the Beverly Hilton Hotel to shield prying eyes and cameras from getting a picture of her body on the gurney. "Whitney's sister-in-law, Pat, spoke with cops that night when she died and with members of the coroner staff. They told her they were going to ensure that no one was going to take a picture of her body on the gurney. The family was so and continues to be so grateful to the Beverly Hills Police Department for everything they have done and the professionalism they have exhibited during the aftermath of Whitney's death. It was naturally heartbreaking to the family when the photo was published, but they trust that the person who took it will ultimately be held accountable," the insider says.

I find it very odd that Cissy is not trying to find out who took the Whitney in coffin pic. Could it be that she knows it was an inside job & doesn't want to throw her family under the bus?

While in New York City for the Big Apple leg of his comedy tour, comedian Mike Epps stopped by the Wendy Williams Show for a quick chat. He discussed working with the late Whitney Houston on the movie Sparkle. "I was so glad I got to meet her, and work with her. She was such a joy, and her presence was so real and just when she came on the set she would light everything up."

Derek Luke Talks Sparkle Co-star Whitney Houston

He tells BET.com, “She made us feel at home.”

Ten years since his breakout performance in Antwone Fisher, Derek Luke has another high-profile movie on the way. He plays Stix, love interest for the title character played by Jordin Sparks in the upcoming remake of the 1976 film classic Sparkle, and had the opportunity to work with Whitney Houston, in what turned out to be her final role. “We had a great time bonding,” said Luke when we caught up with him at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday. “We had a few scenes together and we were always on set together, shooting at the same time.”

Luke was devastated when he heard about Houston’s death. “The whole cast was,” he said, adding that she was happy being in front of the camera again as Emma, the mother who disapproves of Sparkle’s music biz dreams. “Whitney’s friends said they’d never seen her more comfortable on a set. She felt at home and made us feel at home.”

According to Luke’s wife, Sophia, “it’s going to be like the grand finale on the Fourth of July” when Sparkle opens in August, and Luke believes it will be a fitting final tribute to Houston’s talent. “She’s excellent in this movie,” he said.

Mike Epps is a cool dude I met him @ Image Awards two weeks ago..

Target pulls Greeting Card Mocking Whitney Houston

February 29, 2012

With Whitney Houston’s passing not even a month in the past, Target stores have quickly pulled a greeting card mocking the pop singer from the shelves.

The card, poking fun at Houston’s troubled relationship with former husband Bobby Brown, was sold in the national chain's stores before the singer’s death on Feb. 11.

The text of the greeting reads, "Next time you think of dating the bad boy….consider Whitney Houston. That's all I'm going to say.”

A Target rep said: “The card was in our stores prior to Ms. Houston’s death. As soon as this was brought to our attention, we began the process of removing the card from all applicable stores."

It was foul even before her untimely death. It is one thing (and bad enough) to have gossip bloggers air your dirty laundry for profit/fame... but that is what they do... and it is all part of that monster, Fame.

But to have a retailer with a boardroom, CEO, stockholders etc to profit in such a salicious way like this... well it is just beyond fuckery (my new word... mockery + fucked up).

Whitney herself should have taken a bit of Target's shine and a bit of change for the shitty behavior

Rumors of Whitney being a lesbian started as early as 1987, but why was that?

Surely her former business partner Robin wasn't in the public eye then, or was it a lack of being unable to pin Houston to a significant other that got the rumor mill churning?

Teddy Riley Calls Ray J a 'True Friend' to Whitney Houston; Blasts Media

February 29, 2012

Throughout his 25 plus year career, Teddy Riley has been connected to musical greatness. As the creator of the groundbreaking R&B/hip-hop music hybrid New Jack Swing, the influential Harlem native has rocketed to legendary status since his pioneering work with Doug E. Fresh, as producer of the now classic 1985 single “The Show.”

Riley went on to top the charts with the headlining likes of Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown; lead his own super trio Guy to platinum glory; create landmark studio collaborations with the late Michael Jackson and return to the R&B charts again with his Grammy-winning outfit Blackstreet.

And like everyone else in the music industry and beyond, the recent tragic death of 48-year-old celebrated pop diva Whitney Houston is still fresh on the mind of Riley. After all, he worked with the otherworldly diva on the 1992 Bobby Brown duet “Something In Common.” “She’s one of the greatest singers to ever do it,” Riley recalls. “Whitney was taken away from us much too soon.”

But as news continues to surface on the inner-details of Houston’s death, Riley says that friends and family of the towering vocalist have not been getting enough respect by the media and some fans.

One person in particular, Ray J—singer and brother of R&B veteran Brandy—was in a very public relationship with Houston. Some observers have attempted to dismiss Ray J, who gained infamy as Kim Kardashian’s co-star in the now infamous sex tape, as a mere boy toy for the “I Will Always Love You” star. And some detractors even made light of his very emotional showing at Houston’s funeral (Ray J can be seen breaking down in tears as Houston’s casket was carried out of the church).

But according to Riley, Ray J had been a main bright spot for Houston. “Ray J really had Whitney’s ears,” Riley recalls of the couple’s relationship. “He was there for her. He was there through everything she went through. He was a true friend.” One fact that Riley says gets underreported is Ray J’s positive relationship with not just Houston, but her daughter Bobbi Kristina.

“Ray J was there for Bobbi Kristina,” he says. “Some of the things that I’ve seen and heard, Ray J was there for both of them through it all. I can’t really say too much because I know the true stories and its private. There was talk of another Bodyguard movie. I really wanted to work with her on the Sparkle soundtrack. I know Whitney was on her way back up.”

Riley is currently in the studio working on a Blackstreet reunion album. He also has taken his sound to international heights, becoming the first R&B talent to find global success with the Korean music scene as the producer behind the popular girl pop act SNSD aka Girls Generation—who has since inked a US deal with Interscope Records.

Dionne's message:

my dear friends,

i thank you all for the heartfelt messages of condolence sent to console my family and me in our hour of grief
all that sent or thought to send words of inspiration to us we truly appreciate this and they will hold a very special place in our minds and hearts.........think ing back it is still very surreal and will not lessen immediately for any of us but we are all comforted in knowing the breadth and width that our special one WHITNEY spanned across this vast world of ours having the ability to fill with the love of beauty, spirit, and music for all to get joy from.............so many have expressed feeling the sincere presence of GOD through their television sets, as was felt at the NEW HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH...........WHI TNEY was and is a child of GOD and she had great pleasure in sharing her belief with so many...........there have also been many comments on the poem that i read and i have been asked if i could share it.........it is my pleasure to do so and in so doing i hope it will serve as a comfort in the many trials we all can, have, or will face.
my family and i all thank you for caring and showing your support for us

"I'M FREE"
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path GOD laid for me
I took his hand when i heard him call, I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks undone must stay that way, I found that peace at close of day If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes, these things I too will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life has been full, I've savored much, Good friends, good times, and a loved ones touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me
GOD wanted ME now.........HE SET ME FREE
my love to you all..........until next time

Mary J. Blige on Whitney Houston's death

[img:$uid]http://ll-media.essence.com/2012/02/29/mary-j-blige-the-view-240x340.jpg[/img:$uid]

Mary J. Blige's guest appearance on The View today turned into a confessional as the ESSENCE Music Festival headliner shared her thoughts on Whitney Houston's funeral, and her own struggle with drugs.

"I never go to funerals but I'm really happy I went to hers," she said. "This was really sad because she was everything to women like us."

Asked about her own past drug addiction Blige made it clear she had never done crack. "I lived in a neighborhood where I saw what that did to people. But I did do cocaine…you never know you're addicted until you're up late nights running out on the street as Mary J. Blige looking for it."

The singer added that she did have a conversation with Houston about their shared struggles with addiction. "I got a chance to express to her what I felt about her and how important she is and how I don't like to see her like that and she's better than that," she told co-host Barbara Walters. "I felt really good about the conversation I had with her."

----

MAG COVER: WHITNEY HOUSTON POSTHUMOUSLY COVERS ROLLING STONE

The late great Whitney Houston posthumously covers Rolling Stone magazine’s March issue with the article, “The Diva and her Darkside.” Many magazines who rarely spoke of the star in her later years are scrambling to make some quick cash, but you know that’s the name of the game. You can check out an article snippet on RS’s official website, which features some quotes from producers who worked with the star in the past.

I will say this though, the photo they chose for the cover is beautiful. It was taken by photographer Michel Comte in 1992 for Vanity Fair magazine.

The cover is really beautiful. Finally a magazine cover to capture her true beauty. But this magazine ought to be ashamed of itself. They didn't do right by her with barely any cover stories in her whole career. here is an excerpt from the interview..

Cover Story Excerpt: Whitney Houston

The charming church girl, the shining diva and the demons that came out in force

The following is an excerpt of the Whitney Houston cover story in the March 15th, 2012 issue of Rolling Stone, on stands March 2nd.

Diligent professional one moment, wild child the next: Those were the opposing sides of Houston in her last days – and, it turns out, much of her life. Blessed with a peerless combination of bravura lung power, model-perfect looks, and an image that was both warm and regal, Houston was that pop rarity: a genuine crossover star, juggling music and film, audiences young and old, black and white. "Because of her cousin Dionne [Warwick], she understood all those pretty-ass melodies from Burt Bacharach," says Narada Michael Walden, one of Houston's many producers. "But because she was young and from the era of Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna, she had soul in her too – those rhythms. She had both sides. Plus, she was so damn gorgeous. You couldn't say no to her."

But after she peaked with her 1991 version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and 1992's The Bodyguard, her fans watched as, year by year, Houston's demons were revealed to the world: Her voice grew huskier, her looks hardened. Her records, when they appeared, didn't sell as well as they once had; her live performances revealed a performer physically and vocally rusty.

Photos: Whitney Houston Through The Years

People who worked with her still find it hard to comprehend her dark side. "A lot of us talked about that, and no one could come up with an answer," says Gerry Griffith, the A&R man who brought Houston to Clive Davis' attention around 1982. "Where is that rebellion coming from? It didn't come out for a while." When it did, it came out in force, nearly destroying her personal life, career and music.

From the start, Whitney Houston was a child of both the church and the charts. Her mother, Cissy, was a Newark, New Jersey-born soprano powerhouse who sang backup on classic records by Franklin ("Ain't No Way," "Chain of Fools") and Van Morrison ("Brown Eyed Girl"), and toured with Elvis Presley (when she was a member of the Sweet Inspirations). Her cousin Warwick had crossed over to pop in the Sixties and Seventies with hits like "Walk On By" and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" Whitney, born in 1963, inherited her voice from her mother, and her elegant good looks and strong will from her father, John Houston, who worked variously as a truck driver and for the city of Newark, and who would later manage his daughter's career.

Rob Sheffield's Twelve Favorite Whitney Houston Songs

When Whitney was four, her parents moved her and her two brothers to suburban East Orange, New Jersey, where many black families relocated after the Newark riots. Houston was a shy kid; her grade-school principal recalls Houston standing in line, tightly holding her classmates' hands, her head down. When Houston's godmother, singer Darlene Love, would stay at the family's home while on tour, she shared a bed with "Nippy," as Whitney was called. "I was pregnant at the time and she'd go, 'What do you want, what do you want?' " Love recalls. "There was a store on the corner where she'd run down the street and buy fruit for me. So charming from Day One."

To read the rest of this cover story, pick up the March 15th, 2012 issue of Rolling Stone, available on stands and in Rolling Stone All Access March 2nd.

"....... They didn't do right by her with barely any cover stories in her whole career."

That's a beautiful picture of her but Rolling Stone didnt due right by her over the years. Despite her accolades and setting records with her consecutive #!s, she was on the cover of RS just one time. When she first appeared on the scene she was certainly buzzworthy enough and just as popular as Madonna to garner a cover story. Somehow I can't see Clive Davis or her management at the time turning that down if RS sent a request for a cover story

Whitney so mainstream after 1986 but RS rather have Madonna on its cover before Janet I guess the editors thought a black woman couldnt sell magazines.

Whitney Houston's estate won't yield heirs any money for a long time because of huge debt

One estimate claims it would take 5 million album sales to get out of the red

If Whitney Houston’s heirs are counting on royalties from her record company Sony, they may soon feel like paupers.

On Wednesday, music-industry blogger Wayne Rosso quoted a label executive “familiar with Sony’s accounting” who said the late singer’s estate probably won’t see any royalty checks from her record label “in our lifetime” — and maybe longer — thanks in part to the number of advances and loans she took from the $100 million deal she cut with Sony Music in 2001.

On Wednesday, Rosso, an outspoken veteran of the music business who has consulted for CBS, Island, MCA, Arista and RCA Records, to name just a few labels, posted a report in his Wayne’s World blog titled, “Whitney to Sony: I Will Always Owe You.”

In it, Rosso estimated that Houston would have to posthumously sell more than 5 million albums “to repay her advances and start to get royalty checks. ”

Although sales of Houston’s music has seen a significant sales bump since her untimely death on Feb. 11, the eve of the Grammys, Rosso estimates that her greatest-hits album would have to occupy the No. 1 slot on the Billboard charts for the next six months to hit the goal.

In today’s fickle culture, Rosso’s source notes, “That ain’t going to happen.”

Rosso also writes that on top of the advances Houston took from her 2002 deal, the “How Will I Know” singer “consistently took out loans from the label” with her guardian angel “ Clive Davis ’ assistance.”

The blogger adds that the “last big loan was reportedly from Clive for $1.2 million, though everyone knows it came from Sony and not from Clive.”

A spokeswoman for Sony-owned RCA Records, which was Houston’s label, declined to comment.

Houston’s spokeswoman Jill Fritzo did not respond to a request for comment by deadline.

Rosso also quotes an insider who points out that Houston’s estate may face an even bigger problem in the long term: “They don’t have a smart guy like” the co-executor of Michael Jackson’s estate, John Branca , “who would have marched into Sony the day after Whitney died and renegotiated the deal,” said the source.

Rosso also quotes another Houston “loyalist” who notes that there’s been no real industry professional to look after Houston’s career and business opportunities since she broke with her manager, father John Houston, who died in 2003. (His company had negotiated her $100 million deal.)

In January, Radaronline quoted a source as saying Houston was essentially broke. “Whitney’s fortune is gone,” said a source close to the singer. “Music-industry heavy hitters are supporting her and her label is fronting her cash against her next album.” The source added: “She might be homeless if not for people saving her.”

Typical move by Rolling Stone: the obligatory posthumous cover story.

Fans and observers shouldn't be stunned by the news of her financial insolvency.
