wow, that is amazing.
I never watched that show Being Bobby because I do not like "coonery" type reality shows like this and Flava Flav's show... hollywood paying big bucks for black people to act like asshole fuck ups. I know people who get all of their impression of African Americans from damn TV... and you know they are watching Jerry Springer etc.
So I never saw that side of Whitney.
So all of this info just amazes me. [Edited 2/27/12 6:38am] "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

This show wasn't coonery it was real. It showed the REAL Whitney . Orginally it was suppose to be just Bobby. But Whitney came on. It did ruin her image. But it was real... you're right, I don't know if you're black but I'm an Indian who's been around black people all my life and I hate that. But until the few who benefit knock it off it will continue. Then you do have a huge segment of our country and the rest of the world who think that that is the only kind of black people that exist. I aint crazy about white people but i've been out of my comfort zone more than enough to know that they ain't all just one type of person. Most people do not live like I have though, so they really do believe all the stereotypes and then there is a subculture hanging out on corners in every major city which reinforces what white people think in their own faces. it's just very innacurate, the idea of black women as mouthy drama queens named laqueesha and all the brothers as fuckups is tragic when you've been around black women enough to know that some of them are just the sweetest, kindest women you'll ever meet and the men have a lot more empathy than most men do in this society. It's terrible but what can we do?

iv'e said it before when an icon dies that Elvis was a precedent in many ways and one of those ways was that there was an attempt to dig up his body shortly after his death. Michaels family took the cue and reportedly had him buried 500 feet down and in cement. But really, it's the culty type of icons like a james dean or Bruce Lee who have deal with the craziest shit. Bruce's grave is in my city and it's always been open to the public and with his crazy fans, I've always been surprised no one took his body, someone did steal his tombstone however. i think his grave was finally concretted in after about 25 years to stop the psychos from trying that shit. Whitney? not a cult icon but if you're gonna bury someone with thousands of dollars in jewelry and publicize it to the world, expect trouble.

Whitney was never fake! That glossy and prissy image you speak of was ALSO the real Whitney. Remember she was not only hood and from the rough tracks but she was also of the church, of a two-parent household and was loved and reared to be a lady. Its a disservice to her memory and legacy to insinuate that the class act we all saw was indeed an ACT. Whitney, like most of us, didn't have just one side to her. She, imho, was the type of woman who could hold her own in nearly every enviroment and among any group of people.
Also, while the reality show did not help her image, I don't think it runied it per se. I think it just made her look bad and reinforced the belief many held which was that Bobby was bringing her down. They just appeared to be high on too many episodes. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Whitney was very complex anyway so it's hard to say which side was "the real her". Maybe some part of her public image was a persona but there was some realness there too.

I like to tell the truth. Whitney's parents weren't really together. It was just for the cameras to give her a more wholesome image. But they were actually seperated. Whitney's father John was seeing a close acquaintance to Whitney around her age who he eventually married. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Well consider me hoodwinked because Whitney seemed to love her father. Wasn't she buried next to him? Why be buried next to a man who was not an integral part of your upbringing.
I can certainly believe that Whitney's parents may have fallen out of love with each other when Whitney was a child but they remained married and indeed co-parented their children so that is enough of a two-parent household definition imho. As long as the child feels like they have both their mother and father to rely upon and there is no violence or abuse done in front of the kids then we can say the parents worked together to raise the kids. Can't we? I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Whitney loved both her parents. In fact, when Whitney's parents got divorced, the children took the side of the father because the father was a househusband.

Yes. That is what I heard about her upbringing; that is was the father who spent the most time with the kids because momma Cissy was working so much. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Yeah, not saying Cissy was a bad mother but she worked mostly to help the family get money. I did hear John had a job too and was respected in Jersey (after seeing his obituary). That's what she did to get them out of Newark and they moved to East Orange, New Jersey. [Edited 2/27/12 14:46pm]

We are misunderstanding each other. I'm not accusing you of saying Nippy didn't love her daddy. I am disputing your initial charge - before you edited your post - that the Whitney we are most familiar with (the wholesome Whitney) was fake. I dispute that based on her church background, her having two parents, and her being so close to her father- not to mention her brother. That is often criteria for a wholesome adult woman; a loving family and strong ties to the church. It was the drugs that ruined her. The drugs did not make her more REAL. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. ^HotGritz and Timmy84 ! Whitney had home training. Also parents can break apart(happens alot) or whatever doesn't mean they dont love their kids or the kids dont love them. Whitney was apart of the memorandum at The 84th Oscar Awards [img:$uid]http://s14.post.../img:$uid] [Edited 2/27/12 15:20pm]

Just saw on another board that dickhead Anderson Cooper is doing a segment on his show tomorrow about Krissi. The show is called "Help my addicted daughter."
It's messd up that the media made Whitney's life a living hell and now they have moved on to her daughter.

It must be hard to live in the public eye and have a millions of people make up their minds who they think who you are or not, and saddle you with their expectations of what you should be. Granted people who don't live in spotlight are faced with these same issues more or less; I' hope by the time Ms. Houston reached 40 if not earlier she was able to say, fuck yawl whatever.
Haven said that...
Ms. Houston never struck me as being a phony, never. No one is to blame here, not her late father, her mother, or Bobby Brown. Its about choices: I'll assume Ms. Houston's mother (who made her living in the same business) warned her daughter about its dangers and pitt falls, that's all she could do. That's all any parent can do, you hope and pray when your children leave your home they'll take heed of your advice and remember their upbringing. Even when children lose their way you hope and pray they'll have the strength to reach back for that knowledge to help them make it back. Ms. Houston wasn't able to do that, she got caught up. Its not all that hard not to get caught up, the human condition.
For all you Houston fans, here's a nice write up and a Houston mix-tape.

I am loving this right now... And in the first clip, songs from Songs in the Key of Life are played and Whitney is having fun! Check me out and add me on:

Awww, how sweet of her to hold the chair for Clive...'I got you' . Love her clothes here too and her skin looked amazing .

Ok this may sound a tad messed up to some but I will say it anyway. I've always been in awe of Whitney's skin and it is surprising to me that through her "alleged" off the wall drug use that her skin stayed so amazing looking. I've known my fair of druggies and the first thing to go is the skin.
I'm guessing, and this is only a guess, that Whitney had more episodes of sobriety and good health than we give her credit for. Look at Lindsay Lohan. She's younger and looks absolutely haggish. Amy Winehouse, God bless her, looked a fright as well.
It only takes the wrong drug at the wrong time in one's life to do some irreversible damage to our vital organs and brain. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Well she did say in Sister2Sister that she was a "functional junkie" so she didn't go too overboard with her addiction but then again, I think Whitney's skin was due to genetics. She still looked youthful. It's kinda like El DeBarge. He's been known for years with drug abuse and while it ravaged some members of his family, he still looks handsome if a bit older. Marvin Gaye still looked handsome even when he was in the throes of his drug addiction though David Ruffin fell apart by comparison.

I agree, Hot Gritz. I do believe she had times of sobriety and also was a woman who worked & accomplished alot . I think some folks/media tend to forget that. [Edited 2/28/12 15:16pm]

True, I forgot about El. He was more hardcore than Whitney, however, his bro James looks a hot mess. Yep, genetics must factor in some way. Amazing. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
