A crying shame, ain't it?
Rolling Stone magazine is Left-leaning and it has chronicled the many contributions made by Blacks to music and culture. Although there have been rare exceptions, the editors have traditionally followed the practice of using White cover subjects. [Edited 2/23/12 11:41am]

Don't understand why they used that picture of her. Out of all the beautiful pictures she took. They could have done better. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! I don't care how "left leaning" (wings on the same dirty bird) it is, the magazine has always stunk to me except when it came to classic rock legends. The few soul legends that did get two or more covers I always assume it was an event... hell it's always an event when a black artist gets a cover or two or three on there.

Yeah she has like 5 but she's been on the radar before the magazine's been around(1967)! So thats sad and the next in line for more than 1 is probably Diana(she has 2,maybe 3). Meanwhile other pop divas old and new have that and than some.

-she was on it 7 times in all. Diana has two (1973, 1977). Patti LaBelle was in one with Labelle (1975). I don't think Aretha or Gladys ever got on the cover at all...

Yep. Now compare those ''events'' to Gaga's 3 covers since 2009 and Brit's 5 or more covers over the course of her career.

And 3 of 7 are her posing w/ others(men & Madonna/Courtney Love)

And no offense but did Maddy need all of her's. I thought it was a bit much but maybe thats just me! Anyhow I've seen no more than 28 RS covers with black women/women of color on covers in like 45 years. Also Aretha got one recently. [Edited 2/23/12 12:17pm]

I wonder what Kev and his moms said after Etta James died. Kevin's moms went into this rant about Etta when that whole thing with Beyonce blew over. I haven't watched his "show" in ages...

The National Enquirer Defends 'Beautiful' Open Casket Photo Feb 23, 2012
The National Enquirer publisher Mary Beth Wright has defended the magazine's choice to publish a front page photo of the late Whitney Houston in her casket at a New Jersey funeral home.
''We have no comment. But it was not the funeral home... Whitney was a personal friend to me and my family. We would not do that... I am very angry, very upset, just like the family, just like the fans.''
Speaking to Fox News , publisher Wright said of the photo: "I thought it was beautiful," adding that she saw it as a work of art.

It's a shame how much RS has shunned black female artists. Janet, for instance, in her lengthy career has only covered the mag three times, while Britney Spears has half a dozen covers. Whitney certainly should have been on the cover of RS more than one time. "Get up off that grey line"
