Adele to push about 600K after Grammy sweep

ADELE, WHITNEY HEAT UP: It’s the perfect storm for six-time Grammy winner Adele’s XL/Columbia album 21, as the release explodes at retail, marking a year since its release last Feb. Judging by how sales settle after the post-Grammy, post-Valentine’s Day rush, Adele should do, conservatively, between 550-600k this week—her best to date—making her #1 for the, coincidentally, 21st week, tying the Soundscan mark set by MC Hammer’s Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em in 1990. And, ironically, bettering the 20 weeks logged at #1 by the late Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack. Adele's previous album, 19, and live DVD are also catching fire in the marketplace.

Go Adele! i'm also happy VH got to number 2 smile i'm not expecting them to sell millions of copies, they had there time in the 70's 80's & 90's.

It is Adeles time now.. & Whitney cool

Funny how this will be her best sales week so far. Like the little engine that could. Many have huge first weeks, some over 1 million+, but then they drop off dramatically.

It's all about consistency.

It seems as if Adele's album was released and promoted...the old fashioned way. The new way people are doing to sell albums is not working. The major labels are looking real stupid right now.

Album has sold far too much, but it's quite amazing that an album actually can sell 17 Million copies worldwide (according to wikipedia) these days.

I read somewhere the album has already pushed over 4 million in the UK, one million in both Canada (its best-selling album is over 2 million) and France. I think it's already over a million in Australia but I don't know for sure yet.

I think this album will definitely be over the 7 million mark next week. It's already 6.4 million in the U.S. alone.

And Adele's sales are starting to pick up in Japan.

Well its a totally similar deal that happend with Norah Jones, even the after grammy week. Norah after winning jumped from 144,000 sold prior to 622,000 after the grammys. Norah was released in February of 2002, and wasnt certified Platnum till Late August of that year (it was a slow burn) however it was certified in the USA of diamond status in Feb of 2005, however since the RIAA certified it multi and diamond all in one shot, it is unknown the exact date in the USA she hit 10million though its believed it was later in 2003 that she passed that mark here, which is an incredible pace for an album that really only had one crossover hit technically. Norah went on to sell 23 million worldwide of the album, Norah to this date is the biggest selling female of the 2000's, with sales approaching 50 million worldwide between 2002-2010, so i think ADELE's label MIGHT hold that number over head, since Adele is far more mainstream than Norah is, i dont think the label is gonna let this album be the be all end all for 5 years, no label kills the golden goose, get ready for some serious milking. Blue Note milked Norah big time with two live dvds, a reissue of her demo's all before she had the next record out in 2004.
