New McCartney Album, Kisses on The Bottom
December 19, 2011
Paul McCartney has revealed that he will release a new album in 2012.
Speaking about songs chosen, he said: "When I kind of got into songwriting, I realised how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them.
It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise.

As long as that is the way it stays if this turns into a Santana "Supernatural" type thing and Paul is dueting with Katy Perry and Kesha im have to kill myself. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

So, it's going to be an album of standards? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It will be an album of standards along with two new self-penned tracks, "My Valentine" and "Only Our Hearts".

I can't wait to listen to it. I'm in a Macca mood. I've been discovering several McCartney albums recently, and a new album is what I need.

Quite nice...kinda reminds me of Te Amo Corazon
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Thanks for the embedded audio. There's nothing quite like a McCartney melody.

I know I sound like a broken record but:
Again with the standards?
Don't he got MONEY? | |

I love it when legends often compared their past work to their current work... like BE MORE HONEST!

Can't that be said about Prince and his funk tracks? The dude can't help himself.*
Anyway I really liked that "My Valentine." Some years back he did a similar "nostalgia" gimmick record of covers/originals in Run Devil Run (50s rockers) which I quite enjoyed. So color me intrigued by this one.
*=The way I see it, the world never goes wrong when those old pop musician masters are still out there somewhere cranking out new music. So I view Mr. P and Macca in the same regard. Keep it coming fossils!

I personally don't have a problem with it myself but it seems stereotypical for a "fossil" to record old shit. I rather a younger artist do the old shit... oh wait... NEVERMIND.

I'm not bothered in this case for another reason: Consider all those tracks Paul did that were purposely old timey, dancehall corn: When You're 64, Martha My Dear, Maxwell, etc. I'm intrigued with him tackling the songs he ripped off from in the first place.

Don't you worry; there's ample time to pre-order a copy.

What's it been, like 5 years since "chaos & creation in the backyard" ? And I'm still not through with that album. It's just too good. What an amazing collection of songs. Like many, I'm not too keen on a standards disc, I'd rather have one more new album. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I agree with everything you say. Chaos And Creation In The Backyard is Macca at his best. And yes, an album of new songs would be better, but at least he includes two new tracks.

He's had a few albums since then. One was mainly sold in Starbucks, one was by "The Fireman", and he recently put out another classical album. He also sang with Ringo on one of his recent records. The album's title Kisses On The Bottom comes from the album's opening song 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter'.
The track list to Kisses On The Bottom is as follows: 'I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter' 'Baby's Request' (Deluxe Edition)

I like that.
Anyway, in other related news Paul is booked to play "My Valentine" at the Grammys.

I wonder if there's some more swing based arrangements. It would have been interesting if Paul did Good Night though. Even do it as a duet with Ringo. Quite lovely. I did a bit of research and found that it's an Irving Berlin cover.

I know Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive because I've always liked The Andrews Sisters. "Kisses on the Bottom" has got to be the official worst album title ever. SNL could not possibly spoof this cheese fest of a tittle more that it is so cringe-worthy on it's own.

The album title is derived from a lyric by Fats Waller. I would be surprised if the SNL scribes ever heard of him. [Edited 2/1/12 8:36am]
