Madonna copying Prince's marketing of Musicology

Madonna is apparently "giving away" a physical or digital copy of her new album MDNA for each US ticket purchaser of her upcoming tour. Shoulda went Confessions-like and went it alone. Looks VERY desperate to employ Nicki Minaj & M.I.A to attempt to be relevant. NOt even those two could help Miss Misery (she is looking quite miserable these days) Not to mention, if that wasn't enough desperation, adding LMFAO and Cee-Lo to her Superbowl meltdown. Did I mention these artists are pretty much all on Interscope ? Thats not only bigtime desperate, but hella rigged from the inside out. Ugly

Wow, look at all the old fogies on that list! There's only like 3 or maybe 4 acts/artists on there that started their careers in the 2000s!

I wish she had done this with Hard Candy though I know it was being sold at the stadiums. That album is so underrated and should have sold more. I can see why she's doing it in the US, but though I like the new single, I've heard Masterpiece and I can't say I like these better than Hard Candy though they are alright.

The only thing Madonna has done that was interesting to my ears was Ray Of Light which was more due to William Orbits production than anything.

You can give away whatever you want, but they won't be counted as sales on Billboard

Well if I have to go to a concert and you're giving me a CD and it don't count/is not allowed on Billboard, then you're just giving it away...

Actually shes not doing the same thing that Prince did.... you only got the cd when you attended the show for Prince. There was no download sales included in the concert sale during when he did it. The cd didnt arrive into stores until during the run of the show if i recall.

She is doing what Jay Z & Kayne did for their Watch The Throne Tour but LIVE NATION added the option of getting a physical MDNA cd. but with Jay & Kanye you got the physical itunes down load early.

I wasn't even on here but yeah I bet people were cheering when Prince did it. lol I mean he gave his away too and Billboard had to change their rules to reflect that.

Yeah, I looked at some old threads and people were praising his innovativeness (is that a word?) and brilliant marketing scheming. lol

Since Soundscan stopped counting CD's given away with the price of a ticket after Prince did it this is only a thank you to her fans who buy tickets to her shows. She can't benefit from it in any other fashion. If anything it's detrimental to her CD sales in general considering her likelihood to sell out her tour.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Prince was so masterful 4 giving his cd away with each concert ticket now no other artist can chart on Billboard that way. They had to change the rules. He is so innovative & a trendsetter & a market genius.

[Edited 2/10/12 20:03pm]

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I guess a free cd will soften the 350 dollar floor seats.

Since LiveNation is her actual label, and interscope is just a distrubtion contract... LiveNation is giving away the cd because they can and has little to nothing to do with Prince

What's with the hate?

Looking miserable? come on now, you know that's not true.

Besides, the give-aways will not chart, what's ugly about her action?
