Your top 10 favorite singing voices

Not the best or the greatest ... just our favorite! smile

1. Freddie Mercury (I consider him the best, too)
2. Klaus Meine (I love that voice, he is second only to Freddie, but it's practically a draw for me)
3. Michael Jackson (the interesting thing, sometimes I get tired of his vocal style, but his voice can cause in me the strongest emotions and feelings, like no one else)
4. Dave Gahan (soulful voice)
5. Morten Harket (a feeling of flight, when I listen to this voice, he can absolutely hypnotize me)
6. George Michael (gorgeous tone and a beautiful sounding voice)
7. Prince (well, I love his voice, he's not the best singer in the history and not even my favorite voice, but his voice is charismatic and memorable)
8. Paul McCartney (yes, I'm a fan of the Beatles, Paul - my favorite, and his voice is pleasant for me)
9. Tarja Turunen (the only girl in the top 10)

10. Adam Lambert (I'm not a fan of his music, but damn, the guy has an incredibly beautiful and powerful voice, it was love at first sound) cool

3-6 - almost an equal voices for me, their sequence is constantly changing.
Number 1 and number 2 have a slight advantage over all others wink

  1. Michael Jackson
  2. Bono (U2)
  3. Ryan Adams
  4. Amy Winehouse
  5. Sam Cooke
  6. George Harrison
  7. John Lennon
  8. Bob Dylan (Especially from Time Out Of Mind onward)
  9. Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
  10. Stevie Wonder

Prince sings great sometimes, but poorly most of the time; and I don't understand Paul McCartney getting mentioned twice, but not one mention of John Lennon or George Harrison. Honestly, I think Paul's voice is kinda nasty - I don't like a lot of his slow songs just because he doesn't have a nice voice (imo), like on "Yesterday" and "Mother Nature's Son" - both are great songs, but I prefer to listen to Elvis Presley (Yesterday) or Harry Nilsson (Mother Nature's Son) sing them.

These are mine at the moment I am typing this. Ask again in a month, they might change. They are not in order, except for number one, of course.

  1. Donna Summer - Such versatility and an actress like approach to her lyrics. Sometimes, you may not even now it's her singing. And at 63, no years gone by comment because she still sounds great.
  2. Adele - Love her tone quality and the sincerity in her voice.
  3. Barbra Streisand - This is the Barbra voice of years gone by. Not so much on today's recordings, but she still makes the list.
  4. Whitney Houston - This is the Whitney voice of years gone by. Not so much on today's recordings, but she still makes the list.
  5. Richard Page (Of Mr. Mister) - I still listen to Mr. Mister because of Richard Page. One of favorite male voices.
  6. Christina Aguilera - When she's not scaling and doing runs so much, I love hearing her sing. Powerful voice.
  7. Chris Daughtry - I love rock and roll when he's singing it. Love his vibrato.
  8. Carrie Underwood - She's probaby the country artist I listen to the most and it's because of that voice of hers. Of course, her songs are a part of that too:)
  9. Michael Jackson - Never been a huge MJ fan, but his voice is beautiful when it needs to be and forward when it needs to be. His added adlibs are awesome too.
  10. Mahalia Jackson - Powerful gospel voice with interesting pronunciation at times.

Others: Jennifer Hudson, Tina Turner, Sade, etc.

But this is a list of favorite, but not the greatest singers (otherwise my list would be a little different, too, that something like this: 1. Freddie Mercury. 2. Robert Plant . 3. Steve Perry. 4. Elvis Presley. 5. Aretha Franklin. 6. George Michael . 7. Michael Jackson. 8. Sam Cooke. 9. Klaus Meine. 10. Stevie Wonder)
and I also think it's a little strange that Prince is only present in half of the lists of favourites on his own fan site. eek

I believe that Prince - a good singer. On all the main vocal characteristics: range, vocal technique, vocal control, intonation, power ......
he is a little above average or a good singer, but obviously not great.

But come on, singing has never been his main advantage or strengths. He's a great musician - instrumentalist and in this sense can easily beat 90% of people from each list here.
