Both were eras are great, "It's My House" is my jam. But I have to tilt toward the Chic-produced Diana" album. "Upside Down", "I'm Coming Out", and "Now That You're Gone", are just divine. cool cool

Which Ashford/Simpson era are you referring to? There was more than one.

there was no CHIC era, due to the fact she that was the last studio cd on that contract and the didnt do more than one together. Nile did Working Overtime in 1989.

we know what an ERA is

DIANA a CHIC production was the last STUDIO project for motown before she went to RCA.

WORKING OVERTIME a NILE RODGERS production was the first Studio project upon her return to MOTOWN

There were no CD's when she was doing those albums.

This is a tough one because both albums are excellent.I think I'll go with the Chic era.The 'Diana' album is just perfect...every song is a winner.

I'm so hoping Hip-O will reissue "The Boss" with alternate takes.

As much as I love the "diana" album (of which I prefer the remixed album over the original Chic mix), I would definitely go with the A&S era. They produced three magnificent albums for Diana and she never sounded better than under their direction.

Nile Rodgers, however, is responsible for the dud that is "Workin' Overtime", her worst album ever! (bar a few songs)

A&S no doubt. They brought out the best in Diana. smile She knew it too because after they left Motown and her sales started slowing down, she brought them back. They're responsible for Motown's first audited RIAA gold album.

Plus they're responsible for some of Diana's greatest albums:

Diana Ross (1970)

Surrender (1971)

The Boss (1979)

And their collaboration on Diana & Marvin's album, "Just Say, Just Say" is a gem. music

I agree with you on that. For years,I had been hearing about the "Chic mix" version of the album, and how Bernard and Nile were disappointed when Motown and Diana remixed it.But then when it was finally released on the 'Diana' Deluxe Edition,I was really disappointed.I thought...is THIS really the version that Bernard and Nile wanted to release?! Diana's vocals sound lazy and bored....and there's not enough "ooomph" in the music. The remixed version has a "brighter" sound and Diana's vocals are more energized.

My sentiments exactly! The remixed album that came out is a lot snappier! The only exception is "Tenderness" which runs longer on the Chic-mix and has a great instrumental break at the end, love that version!
