Aretha will not be attending or singing today!

Aretha Franklin awoke this morning and realized it wasn’t possible to do shows at Radio City Music Hall and a funeral in between. You can’t blame her, and I’m not surprised. Fans and friends and well wishers stuck around last night backstage for two hours past the end of the show. Aretha, who’d put on quite an amazing show, looked exhausted. As one of her reps told me just now, “She would have had to be back in New York by three o’clock at the latest. She feels terrible about it. But she’s got to rest.” I know how overwhelming this has been for Aretha. So cut her some slack. She’ll watch from home and grieve privately.

It is being said now she has a sore leg and foot after last night's concert in NYC (according to the Boston newspapers).

Auntie Ree is not a young woman and not in the best of health. I guess it's all a bit much for her. I hope she takes care of herself.
