while i really respect Steve Vai as a guitarist, very few people are aware of his skills. more people are aware of the

What does any of that have to do with anything. Funny because as a 12 year old he won several state competitons playing classical piano. So what was that you said? Nevermind. If you get it great, if not...

Not a lot, but YOU introduced it into the discussion as Eddie ammo. Maybe you miss-spoke by saying he does not read music, and meant to say that he does not read music for guitar. Either which is not likely, if he indeed won classical piano competitions in his youth. Classical piano requires the ability to read music at an advanced level. Which is it? Does he or does he not read music?

Listen to this interview. Here it is directly from the horses mouth. Do you play a musical instrument or are you just a critic?

I could have done a google search from the beginning. But when I am having a discussion with someone I tend to believe what they are saying when stated as a fact, (Eddie does not read music), and entertain their opinions, (Eddie is better than Jimi or vice versa) in order to enjoy and benefit from the discussion. I don't tend to research. I thought there was a conflict in your statements so I was seeking clarification. (By the way I can not open that link in China. What is the gist of it?)

Yes, I play an instrument. I am a professional bass player in South China with my own working band and on regional suport retainer. Thanks for asking.

I agree that many will agree with you especially considering the marketing that has been given to Jimi Hendrix since his death. When it comes to todays "standards", Hendrix would be considered a very good guitarist but not a great one. Eddie didn't continue his evolution either but both he and Jimi were quite influential in their given genres. Maybe things would have been different had Jimi not passed away.

Hendrix was the forerunner who paved the way for Edward and I think he would have enjoyed Edward.

Apparently Jimi's musical aspirations had no bounds! In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he said, "I'd like to get something together, like with Handel and Bach, and Muddy Waters, flamenco type of thing. If I could get that sound, I'd be happy.

A lot of rock players throw shade at Jimi because here was a Black Man revolutionizing guitar while f****** all of their beautiful blondes so they can't take it.

Eddie had the benefit of growing up listening to Jimi, Jimmy, Jeff, Eric, etc

But yeah I think Eddie has technical proficiency that even Jimi would have marveled at. That said, we all know there is more to being a musician than technical proficiency.

Now, who would I rather listen to? Jimi--mostly because I prefer his music. But Eddie is an incredible guitar player.

Strictly speaking guitar skills I would give it to Eddie. I think Jimi was a tad overrated and plus people were high as fuck back then so they just thought he was the ultimate when he really wasn't.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Eddie drunk off his ass, and just messing around, but I find this clip interesting because he is making sounds that are reminiscent of Jimi. And I never really thought they were similar guitarists

Jimi Hendrix – The Greatest Guitarist Of All

http://guitaristrock.com/...i-hendrix/

Jimi HendrixOnce in a lifetime an artist is born, who has the explosive talent capable of transforming the very core of the art that he chooses to practice. For the world of rock, that artist was Jimi Hendrix.

Hailed as the most influential and creative musician of the twentieth century by fans, critics and contemporaries alike, no other rock artist has been conferred with so many awe-inspiring superlatives. And rightly so, for Jimi Hendrix single handedly turned the sound of rock & roll on its head and infused it with mind boggling, electrifying psychedelia. Jimi Hendrix was the most iconic artist ever to grace the rock music scene.

Hendrix Introduced A New Sound To Rock & Roll

Hendrix took rock & roll into uncharted territory, where no man had ever gone before. Short of inventing it, he did the utmost in exploring the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar. With uncanny mastery, he coaxed the instrument into producing the most amazing sounds, from roaring ocean waves to subtle flutters to sounds which were almost astral and otherworldly in quality.

Playing at ear shattering volumes, he toyed with distortion, fuzz and feedback to create music that was as much rooted in tradition as it was avant-garde. He used the “wah wah” pedal and the newly introduced Marshall amplifiers to create a wholly new sound, never heard before.

The sound of Jimi Hendrix’s music has resonated through the ensuing decades to influence every musician worth his salt, from Eddie Van Halen to Sly Stone, from Miles Davis to Steve Vai. Confirming what every true guitar lover already knew, Rolling Stone magazine crowned Jimi Hendrix the undisputed #1 guitarist in its list of the 100 great guitarists of all time.
