Rufus, w/Chaka Khan - "Street Player" (1978) ...
Just a tribute thread on this album! Although my particular favorites are Ask Rufus and Rufusized, This would come close behind them for me....
Stay
Stranger To Love
Destiny (featuring Clare Fischer)

I love this album! It would be so cool if all of the Rufus and Chaka Khan albums could be remastered and packaged in a deluxe box set...with liner notes, essays, etc.Their amazing catalog deserves that kind of treatment.

I agree! I'm actually surprised that it hasn't been done yet...

I'd sign it!
Lately I have been playing a lot of Rufus and this album is one of their best! If you will, so will I

Great tracks and wonderful orchestration by the late Clare. Thanks for sharing! I actually had the idea sometime ago to post a topic about Rufus' work without Chaka So i hope it's cool if i post some of my faves here:
From their Numbers album (1979)
Bet My Dreams A sweet mellow groove with the late Freddie Hubbard adding sphereful trumpet fills.
Red Hot Poker Instrumental jam with a returning hook which reminds me somewhat of Stop On By.
From Party 'Til You're Broke (1981)
Hold On To A Friend Such a great vibe in this midtempo jam with all the harmonized vocals, instrumentation and orchestration arrangements. The intro is strong and i dig Tony Maiden's subtle guitar fills.
Can I Show You Again a wonderful intro, building up slowly and then suddely the horns coming in like a rocket. Awesome arrangements.
We Got The Way Penned by Rene & Angela, and recorded/released a year later, on Rene & Angela's production of the group Plush featuring Siedah Garrett.
Tonight We Love Rare footage from Solid Gold which i just discovered yesterday.
From Seal In Red (1983)
Tight album produced by George Duke, and featuring Ivan Neville (family related to the Neville Brothers) on lead vocals. Ivan has a unique tone in his voice and some of his ad-libs remind me of the late Robert Brookins at moments. The first posted track below i dedicate to you Nippy, and although the title of the track, people will never get over your loss...
When I Get Over You
I'm Saving This Love Song
The Time Is Right That synthbass-syncopation is so tight. My guess is that Mister Dukey Stick tweaked those hooks.
