A few takes on the beautiful Herbie Hancock composition.

...Herbie Hancock (original from Thrust - 1974)

...Brian Bromberg

...Lee Ritenour

...Robert Glasper

...Gretchen Parlato & Meshell Ndegeocello

...Norman Connors

...Eddie Henderson

...Ithamara Koorax

...Herbie Hancock (from Dis Is Da Drum - 1994)

There's also a nice version by Brian Auger (featuring his daughter Savannah on vocals) which unfortunately isn't on YouTube.

Yah, one of my favourite pieces of music.

I decided to stay home this New Year's Eve (the previous one was a bit rough, hah). This was the track I chose to play when the year changed.

Mr. Hancock has his melody/harmony concept down.

One of my pre New Year's celebrations caused me to miss the Band of Gypsys show at the Fillmore. doh!

Never will forgive myself for that one. disbelief

Herbie's piece is such a classic!

...BTW, Paul Jackson's Bass line, at the 2:05 mark--I knew it reminded me of something else...turns out, I was thinking of a later track , a groove by Santana ...from the track "Take Me With You" (from "Amigos", 1976)...
