The Return of D'angelo

I know a lot of orgers like a bit of D'angelo on the side and the new material I've heard on the yet to be released album (whatever it ends up being called) owes a sonic debt to Prince.

Check out this article where I've highlighted some comparisons from his latest gig in London.

Let me know what you think

Peace

Dara

Did I read that right?? Jesse Johnson playing guitar in D'Angelo's band??? That guy's a legend!!

I was already looking forward to James River (or whatever it's going to be called) but it seems like D hasn't lost it so, assuming it's released this year, he could be looking at album of the year...

Brown Sugar

Lady

Left and Right

Untitiled

Cruising

If you want to go there you could say he's a TWO hit wonder:

Brown Suger LP

Voodoo

It's the Voodoo Tour that to me has cemented his reputation (Still fondly remembered after over 10 years).

Best singer since Al Green...

@Pishanga

I wish mate, I've only heard the tracks that he has played live. I have a feeling there will be some 80's elements in the mix. It won't just be the classic soul sound we have been used to

He also played a totally left field (if straignh up) cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity at the Paris gig. Think he dropped for Londopn as it killed the mood.

@Kazzy88 can't believe how much Jesse Johnson looks like Prince.. facially very similar, same out there dress sense and he even does that mouth moving thing during the solos like Prince does (think he got that off Santana)

Only give away is his height lol

Agree with everything here! The next album definitely won't be Voodoo 2.0, I think "The Charade" is a clear hint.

I was suprised but glad he covered "Space Oddity", totally unexpected!

And yes, one could really think Jesse is Prince...
