I would agree 2Pac was talented...no question...but what will be his musical legacy be?? John Lennon on the other hand...where do you begin??

2Pac's legacy is as the greatest hip-hop artist of all time, a true poet, voice and idol of a generation. He's the blueprint, the standard, the measuring stick for most hip-hop artists, and the James Dean of rapper-actors. One of the most important socio-political young black voices of all time, a warrior who continually fought the system until his last breath and continues to educate and inspire through his music. And of course, tragically cut down in his prime.

I think that's the main difference between them as far as their respective assassinations, John's most enduring work was likely behind him, not that he couldn't have created more great and impactful work but it wasn't likely that he'd continue to have the impact that The Beatles did.

Whereas, 'Pac's best work was most likely ahead of him and we'll never know. He was certainly on fire in his final months in terms of the power, intensity, and quality of his work and he had a very ambitious plan for his coming years that spanned bigger movie roles, his own label (he had already begun signing artists) and production company. For me, that makes his tragedy more intense and much more of a loss.

Put it this way - If John had been assassinated at the age of 25 - as Tupac was - there would be no Revolver, there would be no Sgt Peppers, there would be no White Album, no Abbey Road, no Let It Be.

If we had lost Prince at 25, we'd have no Purple Rain, no Around The World In A Day, no Parade, no Sign O' The Times.

The fact that Tupac had already made at least three classic albums prior to his death is remarkable. That's "Me Against The World", "All Eyez On Me" and "The 7 Day Theory", for the record. The fact that he'd recorded at least another 10 albums worth of material, much of which is of a very high standard, is nothing short of astonishing. The fact that he also starred in at least 4 big Hollywood movies opposite the likes of Janet Jackson, Tim Roth, Thandie Newton and James Belushi is amazing too, and whilst not all of those were great movies, HIS performance in every last one of those movies was amazing and magnetizing.

Tupac's legacy, for me, is much more remarkable than Lennon's because of what he was able to achieve in such a short space of time.

wow...that has to be the most spot on response that I have ever seen....

i feel Lennon's legacy will be forever tied with the beatles...if we are going music to music...I would have to give the edge to Pac...that kills me to say...though Lennon's had a couple of classic albums as well...2pac dying was the greatest career move for him...he was interesting and people always wanted to see what he do next...but i think those 10 albums would have not done as well as his prior work...very few rappers do well commerically after 30...

But u know the beatles legacy great exceeds Pac...the is no question about that...
