I've grown to respect Beyonce over the years for various reasons [even though I'm not a big fan of hers, nor do I listen to her music often]. But I was having a conversation with someone recently & they were saying that their main problem with Beyonce is her...uh...overdoing of everything....

From the singing [& lack of truly catchy songs] to the performances, to the staged interviews. Now I never really thought about any of this @ all [Like I said, I'm not as big of a fan]. They also brought up how much more free-flowing Rihanna is & how her songs are FAR more catchy than Beyonce's are....I had to think about that too.....

What are your thoughts on this, is She a tryhard who overdoes everything? Is she trying her hardest to be MJ [which was also said]? If she toned down on the aggressive singing, & had catchier songs, would you like her more?

I think she is driven to the extreme!

There's no line she won't cross, so a simple striptease ends with her bathing in a martini glass, a cute little belly dance ends with her rolling around in the sand doing backflips, arched backs bend to dangerous proportions, vocal outros turn into arias, you get the idea.

If it simply calls for sexy she won't hesitate to turn it sleazy. But her drive has turned her into probably THE best female performer currently out.

It's freaky you're saying this, because I just made a post about this like a couple minutes ago in another thread.

That's exactly my problem with her too, is that everything about her work is so over-the-top. It never occurred to me to look at it as her trying too hard, but maybe that's exactly what the problem is.

But to be fair to her, she isn't the only one. If I'm really honest, most musicians strike me as trying too hard.

Gaga tries to hard to make everybody think she's super-unique and eccentric and some nonconformist rebel-genius; actually the same could be said about Bjork, Badu, and a whole slew of other people, they just all go about it in different ways...

If Beyonce toned it down yeah, I'd be able to bear her more but I still think that ultimately I'd never grow to be a fan because I just can't relate to her in terms of her songs and the things she writes about and how she phrases them. It's like we're two totally different ends of the spectrum and everything about her is foreign to me.

I feel like her Parents/Managers kept shoving her down our throats and not letting us deciide for ourselves if we liked her or not, or just let her stand on her own talent and merits.

Beacuse of that, she tries hard to meet the expectations that are put upon her, and that turned me off her. I like the idea of a Beyonce, but there are far more talented females out there that unfortunately don't have the tenacity as her parents. They delivered the gigs, she has to deliver the performance.

Yes. But that’s why she’s outlasted a lot of other performers.

I think she's overworked. All that work starting at age 9 onwards can't be healthy.

Everything comes easy to Beyonce. Singing, dancing, looking gorgeous. I don't think she has to try hard at anything (except maybe school work).

She really can't tone it down now because if she took all the fancy production and over the top stuff out, we'd be saying now she's trying to be 'down" and we still wouldn't like it. I do like Beyonce tho

she has an amazing voice, but she does over-sing just about everything and most of her music is good, but it is not incredible...I don't think she has very many if any records that we will be listening to or talking about in 20-30 years from now.
