Honestly, I think she lip-synched the national anthem. Not really her fault, though; I'm sure the NFL didn't want another Christina Aguliera moment where she would flub the lyrics.
BTW, did anyone notice how the lyrics were posted on the LED screens in the background?

It was nice that she just sang the song and didn't strrrrretch it ooooout as looooong as huuuuumanllllly pooooosssssiiiiibllllle. She also looked really nice. She did do a really great job. I'm firmly planted in denial |

So much better than last year! Christina was a mess, I like it when they just sing the song without all the extra runs and riffs trying to show that they can sing.

that's not true. Most people recognize Whitney's version as the standard to beat and for the last 20 years, no one has that is why her name is brought up every year and that performance is linked around the net and in newspapers every year come Superbowl.
Kelly was nice but nothing earthshattering or make me want to say 'epic' or give me goosebumps. It doesn't take much to top christina's last year which really is the text book of how not to sing it, imo. | |

Until Whitney, people either sang it straight forward or butchered it.
Whitney stood up and sang it beautifully, but didn't stretch it out ad nauseum.
From that point on, people have tried to take it over the top, besting Whitney.
Instead they've made it painful to sit through.
That is why Kelly Clarkson's performance was so refreshing. I'm firmly planted in denial |
