File under Minneapolis Funk: New Albums from PABLO GORDY, ANDRE AKINYELE ....

So many new FUNK albums outthere and noone seems to take notice ....

After releasing Do You Know Louis last year, which has been one of my favorits in 2011,

PABLO GORDY is back with another masterpiece "Mr Slim And His Lost Souls"

Mr. Slim and His Lost Souls [Explicit]

This album, as his last, is anything to go by for a Prince fan. The vocal arrangements, the guitars, everything is purple, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

And Then their is ANDRE AKINYELE and his new full-lenght "THE POTOMAC SYNDROME". Wow, where shall I begin, this guy is history to me since releasing The Diary Of Marcel in 1999, later The Alternative Hip-Hop Experience and Uptown 2025 AD, back then he named himself MARCEL and these albums have been milestones in Minneapolis Funk to me ... Along with BSlade, Tonex at that time, them both were my musical heroes. Since releasing a couple of Jazz albums I never thought to receive another R&B production from him, I am happy ....

If you're hungry for more Funk and same brandnew hot R&B, check out the new releases from:

MORLACK - Where Do You Get Your Funk From

FINGAZZ - Fingadelic (a talkbox affair ....!)

MADEBYUS - On Air

THE DUGAN QUARTET - Bricks And Mortar

MARK DU'VELLE DOYLE -Thinking Of You

D'NIK - ROCKZ AND SLINGSHOTZ (like a JDavey ...)

ROBIN MCKELLE - Soul Flower (What an incredible voice!)

And take this one for Desert:

PTFI - Who The Funk is PTFI

this album is acctually from 2011, but dont miss on that one!

Admittedly I didn't like everything that you recommended in this thread. However, I will say that the "Fingadelic" album was quite enjoyable, perhaps the whole talk-box thing could become a little gimmicky after a while but even so it was pretty cool to listen to that album. I really liked the Michael Jackson covers on the album too.

I had no idea that "Marcel" had released a new album either, so thanks for the heads-up on that one... I first heard of him back in 2005 and I have a few of his older discs. I'm playing his new album right now. cool

I think the best track on "Fingadelic" is "Future Funk", a progressive-electronical talkbox jam, really made for the future, nethertheless I like the MJ covers, too. Best talkbox track recently that came to my ears is "NEO-SOUL'D OUT" by JAMAL HARTWELL FEAT. BYRON CHAMBERS, this one is cooking, unfortunately the album sucks.

Good to hear that somebody else, except me, is digging MARCEL. In the beginning, I was thinking his new album is not as good as his old ones. But now, after listening to it regulary, I am really in love with it, it may not catch you with its beats but the songwriting is brilliant! Excellent work.
