btw, that "Act Of War" song (with Elton) is pretty terrible, isn't it? lol It was interesting to hear Millie in a pop setting, but the song is pure garbage.Elton was putting out alot of crap during that period.

Yeah, that song was horrible. lol Didn't that song chart?

Millie used to mention that she considered Elton a friend on the air.

that song was a bomb,at least here in America lol Elton originally wanted Tina Turner to sing it with him,but she had scheduling conflicts so he called Millie instead.

Because it was probably her biggest hit...even if it only sold a few hundred thousand copies world wide. The check is probably the only reason. lol

This was such a great episode. I believe they showed the true essence of Millie's career. Even though they left off her late 80s hits and independent period in the 90s and 00s.

I don't recall them mentioning that she still doesn't have a manager to this day. If you call to book Millie, you actually CALL HER! She manages her own affairs and pays her own band.

They also didn't mention that she hates horn parts played on keyboards. She had me in tears at the beginning of the year before she stopped doing her radio show. She mentioned on the air that she hates "doo-pee-doos" on her records. Everyone was like "What is a doo-pee-doo?" She said that's those plastic sounding songs.

I also wish they had covered the rappers that have sampled her music or the fact that she is a real songwriter. They mentioned she had written lots of her hits, but it just seemed like they glossed over that fact.

I've clocked most of those Unsung Episodes as actually being between 32 and 35 minutes after the commercials. A lot of pertinent information is going to be left out. It probably won't happen, but I think think they should maybe consider extending the Unsung episodes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. That way, we can get an additional 10 or 12 minutes worth of information. lol Her 80's career should not have been ignored.

ECHO that. I really like the show it would likely rememdy many complaints about the show if they had more time to, go into, say, the things that Jody was concerned about in the Shalamar episode. I may be naive, but I really am hopeful that they would increase the quality and range of the production if they had longer episodes.

Ray Parker Jr.

That's gonna be an interesting episode!

Since when is Ray Parker Jr, "Unsung"??? He had a success R & B career, made the pop charts with and without his band Raydio, and of course he did the theme to "Ghostbusters".

He even did the theme song to Richard Pryor's "post-freebasing cocaine and setting himself ablaze" kid's show :

Maybe TVOne should change the name of the show from "Unsung" to "Once A Time They Had A Whole Bunch Of Hits" lol lol

Whether you consider him Unsung or not I'm ready to see his story.
He played & wrote for a lot of folks in the 70's before he had those hits. Stevie Wonder,Barry White,Deneice Williams,Leo Sayer just to name some.

He does indeed have an interesting story, I'll be watching too, but I wish TVOne wouldn't call him unsung. I thought the premise of the series was to spotlight R&B artists who never a had mainstream success, or tasted it too briefly. Ray had pop success.

Seems like Unsung has strayed from its original premise after season 1 and basically turned into a "Where Are They Now" type show with some of the artists featured.

^ Wasn't Unsung like that anyway?

Who would call DeBarge, the Clark Sisters, Donny Hathaway, Phyllis Hyman and 'em "unsung"? Especially Donny. lol

I mean if people are gonna attack the show, go at the root. lol

In my opinion, the artists profiled are probably unsung in SOME areas for what they contributed and were not as much acknowledged for.

The one big raised eyebrow I had was the O'Jays one.

Then again, it is great to get these stories because, as it's said over and over again, stories on black artists (no matter what genre, and they covered some rock - Billy Preston) are not often talked about. Also it seems to be promotion (like I think the O'Jays one was).

Yeah, I did the same thing when O'Jays episode aired. lol lol

I'm grateful TVOne is sharing the stories of great artists (and will happily watch), but I don't think the term "Unsung" applies to some of the artists profiled. Guess it's just in the eye/ear of the beholder though... wink
