Producers Have Really High Hopes For Chris Brown

The Underdogs are no strangers to hitmaking. For the production/songwriting duo
of Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas — who have crafted songs for Britney
Spears, Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige — their latest, Chris Brown's "Turn Up the Music," could be their
biggest hit yet.

It isn't their first song with Breezy — the duo worked on his
2007 ballad "Take You Down" and his Jordin Sparks duet "No Air" — but on "Turn
Up the Music," the first single from his fifth solo album, Fortune, they
take things to new sonic heights.
"He's so well-rounded, so versatile, he
can really cover anything. He kills the uptempos, he can do the urban uptempo
records, he could do the ballads, he could do the pop songs. You can really come
to him with any record that you think is that hot," Mason told MTV News. "He is,
for me right now and for many people, the ultimate artist. He's kinda this
generation's Michael Jackson, if you will."
On "Turn Up the Music," which
will be on sale digitally February 14 on iTunes, the Underdogs laced Breezy with
a super-charged dance groove in a similar vein to last year's hit "Yeah 3x." For
Mason and Thomas, the inspiration for this record came from Brown's moves on the
dance floor. "The inspiration was really him as an artist, visualizing how he
dances and how he performs, and giving him something to match that energy,"
Mason said.
This is the first taste we get from Breezy's upcoming
Fortune, a companion album to 2011's F.A.M.E., and based on what
they've already heard, the Underdogs expect some big things for the new album.
"The Fortune record is F.A.M.E to the next level," Mason
described. "Similar material, but he's really being innovative with some of the
music that you haven't heard before, taking pieces of other genres and
integrating them into pop and R&B, which I think is really cool. Vocally, he
sounds amazing; he's really, really coming into his own as a singer."
Thomas
added: "The only way I can describe Chris and what he's doin' with this record
that he's making is that he's this generation's Michael [Jackson]."

I'm so sick of hearing this about every popular r&b artist..

The song is generic modern dance-pop, and is nothing I'd ever listen to. Will it be a hit? Probably; but I don't like it.

I'd rather listen to the worst Michael Jackson song than this.

It's like they go out of their way to let everyone know what they've done so they can get more work, instead of letting their work speak for itself. If something is hot enough, labels, artists and the like will search you out, no need for the hype game.

You have to promote your music, or else hardly anyone would ever get popular. The fact that they must continuously compare every popular R&B singer to Michael Jackson is what's annoying..

Chris Brown is and always has been the real deal. When U have real talent U will never go away. I mean look what MJ went through. Don't understand why he gets so much hate on this site. Chris is TALENTED so get over it. His talent is really comparable to MJ. He can sing, dance & write music to....He will be back on top again...He also is very approachable and humble....

I was one of the 2nd-chancers of Chris Brown and while I feel hardly anything concerning Rihanna-Gate, he's just so dumb. Do yourself a favor and don't follow him closely. You're only in for a lot of heartbreak.

I feel that artistically he's kinda schizo. After "Forever" (and seeming public forgiveness) he could've been much bigger then he is now, but he's so arrogant and stubborn. What he should've done was put out a PSA with NOW or something preaching the evils of domestic abuse (even if he didn't mean it). Then he should've went to therapy to discuss why it went down like THAT (His mom said he's NEVER talked about the incident! It's been 3 years and he's NEVER talked about it, not even to her???)

Then no new album release, not in the same year anyway. Then, maybe 2 years after the incident do one of those cry-a-little-I'm-sorry interviews on the eve of your album dropping. Then go totally pop from the framework that "Forever" built. Not a little kiddie, a little porno, a little rap, a little dance, a little whatever. Go straight pop and win over those people starving for the reincarnation of Michael Jackson.

I don't even know the names, but they each have recent dance songs in the same scale and I don't know who's who either. They had better songs in the 00's and even those were simple.

Any current artist is shat on here at the org. It doesn't matter if it's Chris Breezy or Drake. lol

As far his music is concerned..he's okay I guess. I find his voice to be annoyingly high for his age. I find "Look At Me Now" enjoyable for some reason, I like "Yo" "Wall To Wall" too. "Poppin" is his best song imo. And he can dance his ass off, so I understand the MJ comparisons. MJ did the same 6 moves his entire career, but his dancing ability goes beyond that. You have to look at the Destiny and Triumph tours to see him really let loose. His solo tours were too-choreographed to show is raw talent.

Chris's dancing was good though an mj imitator and his good songs are With You, No Air and Gimmie That. I couldn't really get into the others.

MJ shows even more dancing ability in the variety shows and the wiz and ghosts

One thing you can say about those 6 moves is that they were HIS moves. They are signature. So if anyone does them they are doing a Michael jackson move.

Choreography after Michael really became generic, and you can probably blame Paula and Janet for that.

But Chris, that boy can dance his ass off.

2 cents
