On August 10th, Whitney Houston‘s latest movie ‘Sparkle’ will finally hit US theaters, marking her first time on the big screen since 1996′s ‘The Preacher Wife’.

Starring Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps and Cee Lo Green, the long awaited movie received a promotional boost this week when snaps from its set emerged in People Magazine.

In one of their exclusive shots, Houston and Sparks can be seen in the middle of an indoor scene and in another, the Pop veteran can be seen dressed to the nines as her character ‘Emma‘.

I have no interest in this movie, simply because a remake is pointless. The original is a hell of a movie and it makes absolutely no sense to me, for them to go back and remake it.

And I can already tell it's a turd from that pic of them in the dresses - she's supposed to be playing "Sista"? Oh, no way. No way.

this is why reading is fundamental, whitney is not playing Sister. Carmen Ejogo is playing sister (Jordin Sparks is Sparkle and Tika Sumpter is Dee) and you do have interest in the movie, stop frontin'! If you didn't, you would have 'walked on by' Dionne Warwick voice and u didn't!

I hope the producers totally renovated this movie, 'cause the original was awful.

I find it very nice for them to pay this movie homage.

I wasn't talking about Whitney. I was talking specifically about the pic of the three girls standing together and how clearly the one in the middle is supposed to be "Sista".

See, be careful when you ASSume.....

And the only interest I have in it, is the fact that I quite honestly adore the original and have seen it a billion times. It's perfection and trying to redo it is absolutely asinine - especially since there isn't a woman alive that can really do Lonette McKee's performance justice, barring someone like Vanity/Denise Matthews, who at this point is too old for the part and doesn't really have the acting chops for it anyway, but could probably have pulled it off anyway because she has the beauty, the charisma and the sexual energy needed for the part.

Ejogo does NOT have what it takes to do this :

Even that doesn't really stand a chance of matching up the original; McKee and Irene Cara are both pretty good singers in the actual movie, and then the released soundtrack had Aretha Franklin, doing all the songs.

Hah!

They should just throw in the towel, right now. lol

They better not have any rappers in the soundtrack and all live instrumentation. I wish they had an option for the people who didnt want to have the Aretha versions of the soundtrack because Jump was good on the movie without.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit! They probably will have rappers on some of the tracks if they want the youngsters to buy the soundtrack. sad

Exactly. They have no ideas of their own so they remake and ruin old movies and television series. And they are extremely lazy with this one by casting Shitney in it. They didn't even put 10 minutes of effort to look for someone better. Hell, if no female actresses are available, a man in a fucking dress is better than "her". At least he'd have better legs instead of those chicken legs on her. evillol

Hey, both Divine and John Travolta were a hit in "Hairspray" so it's possible. Hell, anything's better than "her". She looks and dresses like a drag queen anyway so why not cast a real one instead of her. evillol
