Pop superstar Madonna doesn't sympathize with fans who grumble about the escalating price of her concert tickets. She says they should "start saving" their money because she's "worth it."

Tickets for the singer's live shows are always in high demand, allowing promoters to list them at premium prices, despite some complaints from devotees about having to dig deep to afford mediocre seats.

But Madonna, who is planning to hit the road later this year, is unconcerned because she guarantees ticketholders will have a good time at her gigs.

She tells Newsweek magazine, "Start saving your pennies now. People spend $300 on crazy things all the time, things like handbags. So work all year, scrape the money together, and come to my show. I'm worth it."

The forthcoming tour will be in support of her new album, "MDNA," which will be released in March.

I agree! I spent over $700 on two 2nd row tickets and my friend and I had a blast! It was the Confessions Tour in Boston. The only crappy part of it was that I had to pay for my friend's ticket since none of my friends have any extra money. I didn't want to go alone. It was also my first time seeing my fav singer in concert so I thought it was worth it.

Besides, not every ticket is that price. You can buy shitty seats for an affordable price.

Well she still remains the highest-grossing female concert performer of all time so...

What her dumb ass doesn't understand is that her expensive tickets, when you take into effect that much of the good tickets are sold by ticket brokers--this means that tickets will really be expensive, added to the original bitch excise tax. Ho.

Im more pissed about the fact that she hasn't come to Minnesota since 1987.

I'm not even gonna say how much I paid to see Madonna during the last ten years but I had alot of fun! Her shows are incredible.

People will pay outrageous prices for their idols be it Madonna or whoever. Let me know the next time you go to a major show and the VIP seats are totally empty. It's a status thing and a chance to hob nob with celebs who attend the shows.

The way she put it was kinda bitchy, but to tell you the truth, it's kind of hard to say with a straight face that what she said was bs.

Think about it - a concert is an optional expense, a luxury item or a splurge. It's not a 'need', it's a 'want'. Plenty of people shit large sums of money for frivolous shit they don't need all the time. Like, let's be real here and not split hairs about it.

A lot of the same people whining about the price of these tickets probably dropped heaps of money for the latest iPhone.

And like others in the thread pointed out, concert seats come at different price levels too and I'm sure not all the tickets will run that high.

Plus if you just don't wanna pay at all it's not like you won't be able to go to someplace like YT the next day and watch the concert for free from home in your underwear anyway.

So, yeah - honestly what she said was the truth, it's probably just gonna backfire on her because of the way she said it and the fact that it was her who said it and not someone else.

I feel she's right, she just stated it in classic Madonna fashion.

My take is that if you have a favorite artist who is still known to tour you should have a little self control and keep a credit card that you hardly ever use handy JUST in case your fave decides to come close. It's not like you're going to $300 concerts every month.

When Lady Gaga came to town I had my friends buy the tickets morning of because I had to work. I had my money ready but they obviously didn't. Four months later when I arrive at the show I come to find out we have seats that are practically behind the stage! We were relatively close, but it's not a way to watch a show.

All they had to do was pocket away a few dollars and we woulda been set.

I always said Madonna is smarter then the rest of us.

Another person who's out of the touch with the real world- because they've been rich for too long.

Madonna should look back and remember her days as a poor woman in New York- and how hard her life was before she became famous.

My take - she only really wants people who are already big enough fans of her to drop that kinda money on a ticket because casual fans probably won't be that impressed and certainly not impressed enough to go and see her again.

See, Prince plays it cool, keeping his ticket prices low, and he'll blow everyone's mind enough to go again and again, cos he's just that good. I convinced friends who are only casual fans to go see a London O2 date back in 2007, and guess what - they were all blown away enough to the point where EVERY time Prince comes to the UK now they will go.

No slam on Madge, cos I do like her, somewhat. But I don't see her as a great live performer, at all.

She sure has been talkative lately.

(Reuters) - Madonna on Monday announced plans to build 10 new schools in Malawi with a new partner after mismanagement forced the pop star to scrap her first project there last year.

The singer, who has adopted two children from the impoverished southern African nation, said she hoped the 10 new schools would educate at least 1,000 children a year, half of them girls.

That is double the number of children she hoped to help with her previously planned academy for girls, which was scrapped in March 2011 because of mismanagement and cost overruns.

Madonna said her Raising Malawi charity was teaming up this time with the non-profit group buildOn, which has constructed 54 primary schools in Malawi in the last 19 years.

"I am excited that with the help of buildOn, we can maintain our ongoing commitment to move forward efficiently. We now will be able to serve twice as many children as we would have served with our old approach," Madonna said in a statement.

"I have learned a great deal over the last few years and feel confident that we can reach our goals to educate children in Malawi, especially young girls, in a much more practical way. Constructing smaller schools in partnership with buildOn has restored my faith that we can accomplish what we promised we would," she added.

Madonna's earlier plan to build a state of the art girls school for about 400 girls just outside the Malawi capital Lilongwe collapsed last year, and the board of her Raising Malawi charity was fired. The New York Times said at the time that $3.8 million had been spent on the school with little to show for it.

The singer has lent $11 million to the organization which she co-founded in 2006.

Malawi has more than half a million children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic and is ranked by the United Nations as one of the world's 20 least developed countries.

Madonna's plans for new schools came at the start of a busy week for the singer, actress and director. Her new movie "W.E", which she wrote and directed, opens in U.S. movie theaters on Friday, she is performing at Sunday's halftime show at the 2012 Super Bowl, and will release the first single from her upcoming new album on Feb 3.

Since I've actually never seen Madonna live in all these years, I will probably pay that as a one time only ticket price to see her IF she comes to a venue near me. I chucked out more money than I've ever spent on a concert to see Sade last year for the first time! I didn't even spend that much on Prince.
