The last time Don was in public was, I think, about two (or three) years ago. When the O'Jays got their Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards and he just kept dragging on. confused You could tell this was not the same man who smoothly told you that "you can bet your last money, it's gonna be a stone gas, honey." I was thinking even then when I saw him on BET that he must've been really sick.

Yeah, I was thinking to myself when I was watching: 'the ramblings of an old man. Something did seem a little off about the whole thing'.

Most of the old people I know aimlessly ramble. And a lot of the young ones, too!

It seemed judging from the last years of his life, Don Cornelius had a lot of demons. Lest not we forget he was charged with domestic battery about four years ago. And he wanted to leave his wife. Apparently they were still married when he allegedly pulled the trigger that ended his life. Don't ever assume because someone acts the way he did that he lived a life of leisure. Brother had demons. I guess he couldn't take it anymore but it's crazy how you never know how celebrities feel about their own lives despite the joy they gave to others as Don had for three decades.

Agreed-it was apparent that he had some demons-something wasn't right.

I don't wanna assume but I think it started when he decided to leave his hosting duties on Soul Train. It's also possible his brain surgery in 1983 may have started a downward spiral. I think he had a brain aneurysm and he almost died then too.

Yeah I started to notice it to when he stopped doing soul train. You know sometimes when people stop doing what they love it kills their spirit. Poor Don.

Yeah and apparently if you believe witnesses, he was also upset that not a whole lot of folks were attending his awards show that much...

I don't think it's fair to judge how Don choose to leave this earth. He did what he thought was best for him. One usually doesn't just up and commit suicide out of the clear blue for no apparent reason. I'm sure he went thru YEARS of sufferring and agony before he made this decision. I don't know about his family life and relationships but I'm sure he thought about that and how they would be affected, too. I would imagine it takes a toll on a person who is contemplating ending their lives on their own terms.

We can only assume that he must have felt that the remainder of his life would only bring misery. I hate that he's gone, and I feel that suicide is probably not a good idea spiritually, but I respect the decision he made to choose the time and method of his own death. My hope is that he's found the peace in death that apparently eluded him in life.

i wonder if he had become heart broken because of the lyrical and video direction of the current trend of young black music. also the seeming demise of r/b. Mr. Cornelius never liked rap. he really believed in the economic strength of black entertainment. heck he started it all as far as television the related type shows go. imo his greatness outweighed his down and secretive side.

O'Bryan released an album in 07.

I wonder how he feels about this whole situation.

O'Bryan had a myspace page with his current recordings on it. I don't know if it's still up.

Anything is better than nothing.

BET has rights to Soul Train too (had it before Bounce TV even existed.) Let's see what they come up with. They can air Soul Train episodes, past Soul Train Awards from the 3 years it's been on and that VH1 Soul Train special.

So sad. Please, all of y'all here in The Org Family...I believe there is ALWAYS hope. Sorry to say brother Don felt otherwise.

Thanks for the ground breaking musical warmth, Don. Nothin will ever quite be the same "stone gas" again.

Don Cornelius 911 Call Wa...By His Son

Don Cornelius, the creator of ‘Soul Train,’ apparently shot himself in the head in his Beverly Hills mansion early this morning. The 911 call to LA city fire dispatch was placed by his son around 4:00 A.M., according to TMZ.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … one of Don’s two sons made the call around 4:00 AM … and paramedics were immediately dispatched to Don’s Sherman Oaks home in an effort to save his life.

Don was transported to a nearby hospital — where he was later pronounced dead.

Cornelius was 75 years old.

This is so tragic to me. But yet all U people care about is sexuality...

DON CORNELIUS No Suicide Note

0201_ambulance_ex_SplashNewsOnline
Don Cornelius did not leave a suicide note at the home where he shot himself ... this according to multiple law enforcement sources.

We have been told by numerous people today that Don's health problems plagued him for years ... and the pain had become unbearable.

As we first reported, Don was discovered early this morning at his Sherman Oaks, CA home with a gunshot wound to his head.

The picture shows the ambulance that took Don to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead early this morning.
