Madonna vs Janet: Who's more overrated? I don't understand. Weak voices and weak music. Never been a fan of either. But people stan for these two women like no other. Madonna is crowned the "Queen of Pop" but what the fuck does that mean? Pop music is amongst the weakest music out there. She's basically the queen of Shitney Spears and Rihanna? Woopdy-fuckin-doo. Janet has a voice as thin as paper, mediocre at best acting skills, and jocks her brother's dancing style. I can't @ both of these ladies. Which one do you think is more overrated? I'm so ready for the stans, bring it on!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She can't do anything yet people hype her up to be the 2nd coming of Allah. Just some slut who is willing to do anything in the name of being controversial. SMDH
Janet is the female Michael to me.... take that any way you like Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC

Second coming of Allah?
I'm a huge fan of both, but I will admit that though Madonna has good energy onstage, she is far from what she used to be live 20 years ago onstage. She's good for the special effects and wardrobe choices, but something is different. And although it's debatable whether Janet lip synchs or not, I think her current shows showcase her talent way more than Madonna's, though not enough is done with the stage anymore, none of that Velvet Rope book concept onstage or the playful dancefloor concept on All For You. But she keeps me on my feet the whole time, maybe Madonna's next tour will be better than Sticky & Sweet. [Edited 1/30/12 20:49pm]

That would be Janet Jackson for $50 Alex. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Don't do the Krypt Keeper, that's down right disrespectful to him! Madonna looks more like the corpse bride with sloppy botox injections. [Edited 1/30/12 21:14pm]

Okay I understand if you don't like her and want to have a mature conversation, but I'm done with this topic if everyone is just going to act like children.

I think people forget they both really have some good songs.
Marketing, scandals, it all helps, but you couldn't do it without the music. Maybe you think it's weak, i'll say the both have some real true pop classics under their belt.

I love both of their music, but Madonna's will be remembered more than Janet's, it's already happening, though I think it will be her 80's-early 90's work. [Edited 1/30/12 22:22pm]

Although I strongly prefer Madonna of the two ladies (although not a big fan too), I think that Madonna is one of the most overrated artist ever. Her status and popularity >>>>>>>>>>>> her talent and artistic level.

love em both.
but threads like these in a place like the .org only end up as madonna hate threads...and as far as i can see there are already two of those running here. RIP 1958-2016 Prince RIP 1947-2016 David Bowie

People not familiar with popular music and/or not really from North America, Japan (and if you want to get technical, South Africa and some parts of Europe according to stans though I don't see much to support it) still do believe that about Janet and are missing out on her work, even though she has carved a path for other artists like Michael did.

Janet Jackson. If it wasn't for her father & brother's drive at stardom we wouldn't even know who the hell she is.
Madonna took minimal talent and turned it into becoming the most successful female act in history with wit, determination, and a knack for manipulating the media, time and time again, to her advantage. --- The complete opposite of Michael Jackson when you stop and think about it. Him, raw talent but allowing the media to manipulate him and being a dumbass. Being punked instead of punking the public.
Ciccone played the game better than anyone ever did. Before or since. Nothing great on paper (singing, dancing, writing, etc) but look at what she got out of it.

Michael played the media when it benefited him, but when they played him, he would publicly complain about it, though I know it was hard for him and impacted him and his life and there were shady people in the media who were unjust and unfair towards him, even paying people to lie, so you can't really blame him for not 'punking the public' I wanted him to do that to and defend himself more sometimes, cause I was getting tired of it as a fan and hated what was being done to him though I was also getting mad, but it is what it is and we never got to see him wearing a shirt where he pokes fun at himself, I would have loved it!
As for Janet, yes she had the family, but so did Latoya and the other siblings, but she was more determined to break out of mj's shadow, and the others weren't. [Edited 1/31/12 1:33am]

LOL
I love both, but I have to say Janet. Because she was heavily inspired by her own brother. She is not really overrated, but still.... She hasn't do anything relevant in the last 15 years..... and she hasn't had such a huge influence on music/pop culture in general. Of course she is an Icon, and she is a great dancer, and I still love her, but imo Madonna is the one that is most original and also the one that is most relevant , and influencial in pop culture and music.

Both are harder workers, trend setters and smart buisness women with a respectable catalogue of classics.
If you can't handle a woman expressing her sexuality and showing independence then I think you should go back to the 1950s.
That crypt keeper looks alot more like Steven Tyler or Mick Jagger yet I don't see scores of people yelling at them to retire or making fun of their parade of younger partners. 2012: The Queen Returns

If Paul McCartney was Michael Jackson’s godfather he’s be known as “Michael Jackson’s godfather who was also one forth of one of the biggest bands ever”
Or if Beyonce was his cousin she’d be known as “Michael’s cousin and megastar singer”
Lisa Marie Presley was arguably known for marrying Michael Jackson as much as being Elvis’s daughter and you couldn’t read an article about Elizabeth Taylor – (a two time Oscar winner who was the first actress to get £1 million for a film – absolutely huge!!!) without MJ’s name popping up
So that argument of Janet only being known as MJ’s little sister is irrelevant – she could have had 50 #1s but sill he would still have been referenced every time someone writes or speaks about her. So frustrating – worse still people can’t give her credit for her dancing skills – which contemporary female artist is better than her? Even her brother couldn’t dance with grace and flow at her age (i.e. 2001 “comeback” appearances VMAs etc…)
Apart from being overrated in this forum and her own fansites – Janet is hardly over-exposed or hyped-up – and I find it laughable that those saying she is are the same people who not so long ago posted and (or) participated in a topic stating that The king of pop was the most underrated artist / songwriter of all time – highly delusional to say the least.
I was on my way to work today listening to a contemporary radio station and they still played “get into the groove” 27 years after it was released – Madonna’s music will be remembered in years to come – you don’t have to like her or Janet but accept that many people do and will still do in years to come

But I think the point was if MJ wasn't her brother she never would have even gotten 1 hit. 2012: The Queen Returns

Janet Jackson by far! Andy is a four letter word.

Someone was trying to make that point? My god, I don't know how to reply to such stupidity.
I was reponding to someone's tired-ass view that Janet would only ever be known as MJ's little sister.

Yeah, she did have some great music in the 1980s but she sold out to shit hop not only musically, but even down to the men....uh, boys.....she dated. Andy is a four letter word.

I don't think either of them is overrated. for them to sustain careers that long definitely accounts for something. now personal preference is another matter. "what's that book where they're all behind the wardrobe?"
