Public Enemy- By the Time I Get To Arizona
My favorite rap group Public Enemy, this is one of my favorite videos they put out. Sadly i have a feeling it didn't get played much on MTV cause gangsta rap was taking over around the time

i remember the controversy with this video. mtv actually aired a 60 minute special about why they wouldnt show the video before 9pm. kurt loder interviewed chuck d and they had a whole panel discussion about the images in the video. i have it on video tape somewhere. Public enemy was the Shit! i could never get into gangsta rap. i saw it outside my window every day so i didnt need to be reminded of how fucked up it was in the hood. public enemy was more my speed.

Loved me some P.E. I remember this era very well. The video cause a LOT of controversy. The Enemy's music had young people running to the library, (pre-internet days folks), to do research on the names they dropped. This was a good, positive time for rap music. It instilled curiosity, hope, and pride. The industry and the powers that be made sure that did not last too long.
I remember Chuck's quote was something like "This is fiction, and they wont put it on until after 10pm. Every Saturday kids can watch John Wayne killing hundreds of Indians. That is history, a fact."
