Iggy Pop- The Idiot

Anyone an iggy fan? smile

This is a great album, produced by Ziggy Stardust himself & featuring the original version of China Girl

This was also the last album Ian Curtis of Joy Division listened to.... before he commited suicide sad

Also grace Jones did a great cover Nightclubbing & also named her album after it smile as many of you know

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Great album and one of the best live rock acts I have ever seen. Went to two shows of his tour of 2002, mad as a box of frogs.

Awesome record. Has a very unique sound, almost industrial sounding in some parts, quite a dark claustrophobic atmosphere. The intro to Dum Dum Boys cracks me up everytime for some reason..

I got this and Lust for Life on vinyl recently and loooove em both. The second record he did with the Stooges, 'Funhouse', is also incredible. But its obviously a totally different style than the idiot/lust for life albums.

A friend of mine was fortunate enough to see Iggy in the early 80s sometime, think it was The "I'm Bored" era, and to this days swears it is the most amazing show he's ever seen! Apparently iggy came on as the band played the theme from Batman (?) and played for 2 hours then accidentally set half his hair on fire w a cigarette lighter and had to be taken to hospital! The concert the next night was literally cancelled cause iggy was still in hospital.

eek eek eek

This is the only Iggy Pop album I own and I love it! Sister Midnight and of course Night Clubbing are great pieces of art. Any other album by him in a similar style I should check out?

As i was mentioning to Smooth his first album Lust For life has the dark, murky production sound & lyrics of this album! check it for sure.

Iggy's first two post-Stooges albums are masterpieces honestly. He and David Bowie were a great team together.

I love The Idiot and Lust For Life, but the interesting thing about it is that it was mostly about Bowie getting ready to work on Low and kind of used Iggy to do a test run. He admitted it, and then Lust For Life came out, which carried over some of the electronics, but was more straightforward. If you're into Bowie's Berlin trilogy, it's a must own.

Yeah it was. You can almost see it as David Bowie albums. Also Bowie could be heard in songs on both albums singing background and adding in guitar, piano and saxophone. "Nightclubbing" actually was David Bowie in lead most of the time with Iggy backing HIM up. He and David co-wrote "China Girl". And Bowie definitely was the background shrieker in "Lust for Life" so yeah he's all over those albums.

I just had a listen to Lust for Life snippets online and wasn't too keen on it. Would you or anyone else here happen to know how his Blah Blah Blah album is? It has Real Wild Child on it.

Great album but for me The Idiot and Lust for Life are basically a double album, I always listen to them together. There are differences in the sounds of the two albums (they feature different musicians) but they are both fantastic and really compliment each other.

Someone mentioned the beginning of "Dum Dum Boys" always cracking them up and I agree. I especially find the "he's livin' with his mother" bit funny.

They are to me essentially one album, agrere with that very much. And i like the spoken word intro to dum dum boys, i also can't help but feel Bowies presense very much on the album! as people mentioned.... and i love it. I think it gives it that extra edge

"Blah Blah Blah" is in my opinion a brilliant album, it is easily his most commercial album and has a real obvious 80's drum machine sound which seems to be why it gets so much critism. But the songwriting is brilliant, every song is great.

"Brick by Brick", "New Values" and "Instinct" are all really good too.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Blah Blah Blah is a great album! but then again i think Bowies Let's Dance & tonight albums... and most fans whine that album is too ''commercial''

Blah Blah Blah like Let's Dance is funky, has lots of experimentation & some great lyrics!

And brick by brick is good fun.

I consider The Idiot/Lust For Life as part of David Bowie's discography as anything else he did at the time.

I would truly love to see/hear a documentary that examines the Berlin era.
