Favorite Sabbath Album?

I Haven't listened to Sabbath in awhile & recently got into there 1970-1981 work! some really amazing albums here.

I Would still say Vol. 4 Take's the cake for me! very experimental, some of Ozzy's best vocals and the guitar playing by Iommi & bass lines by geezer are astounding. And can't forget Bill wards bluesy drumming!

Paranoid is right behind it... that album has some of the most classic guitar rifts of all time & some great songwriting.

The Dio years are also good to... i never really looked into there post Dio output.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Never been too keen on No4, it feels a bit rushed and the songwriting just felt like a marked step down from the previous albums.

My two favourite Ozzy-era Sabbath albums are Master of Reality and Sabotage. Honoury mentions go to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Paranoid.

That is a hell of an album, listened to it again yesterday.

First the song has so many classic rifts!, the booming bass & drums. The eerie Electric Funeral, The tripy Planet Caravan, the metal classics War Pigs, Paranoid & Iron Maiden. And even a ''Moby'' dick type drum solo on Rat Salad

Oh & the dark sound love that to! and it freaked people out back in the day razz

I would probably agree that Vol. 4 is their best. The first four are absolute classics. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are just a step below and the other two (Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die) are ok but clearly inferior to the first six.

I really dig the first two Dio albums too and would rate them quite highly. Oddly, Dehumanizer was my first Sabbath album.

I used to scare my much younger cousins shitless by turning out all of the lights and playing the song "Black Sabbath" LOUD. It might sound silly to a grown man but that song absolutely terrifies young children!

Yes, the first 2 Dio albums are very good. Vinny Appice & Vinnie Campbell are some great musicians

Ozzy era i would go for Black Sabbath, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or Paranoid. But you could do alot worse than Heaven And Hell, The Mob Rules and Seventh Star, although that one was supposed to be a solo Iommi album due to the record company he was made to put Black Sabbath on the cover, also check out Iommi's Fused album with Glenn Hughes.

The awesome thing about Sabbath is that forty years later they are still the gold standard for heavy metal. Other groups may have been faster/louder/more aggressive but they are basically using the blueprint that Sabbath created.

nod

ANY heavy metal sub-genre owes something to Black Sabbath, specially doom, stoner and black metal, and the progressive elements of thrash...

I think Sabbath, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy and early Judas Priest have influenced virtually ANY metal act of the 80-88 era... and grunge was basically Sabbath violating Neil Young, lol And even slow as hell nu-metal is the grandson of Sabbath nod
