Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Kathy Sledge, Pointer Sisters and Gloria Gaynor rock Etam fashion show Show producers for one event at Paris Fashion Week went all out last night when they gathered '70s icons Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Kathy Sledge, the Pointer Sisters and Gloria Gaynor to perform at Etam's lingerie fashion show. The ladies transformed the show into a disco-era celebration reminiscent of the days of Studio 54.

And the camera adds 10 pounds. Imagine what they look like in person. Enough about them twigs...
HOLY SHIT! That was hot! Nice to see the legends doin' the damn thing and lookin' and soundin' GOOD! Puts this new generation of no singin' starlets to shame. WERK!
What can you say, Grace is such a rockstar. Vanity, Madonna, Janet, Beyonce...all got their act from Ms. Jones.
Shout out to Ruth Pointer. There just are no adequate substitutes for the sisters. Who was them other 2?
Did Chaka stop smoking? Her voice is coming back strong.
Gloria...astounding as always.
So good to hear disco with live strings. Almost made me cry. That must be Kathy's daughter? Look just like her mama.
That right there was HISTORIC!

That young lady with the blonde wig/weave with her booty cheeks hanging out and bending over backwards is most definately not Anita Pointer. Plus, if Anita was in the building she would've sung lead on her song.

The Blonde is Ruth's granddaughter.. Anita was singing lead.

Am I the only one that thinks the girls look healthy?
There's a world of difference between being emaciated and just being slender, which these girls are imo. I think a lot of the problem is that people - particularly in the United States - are so used to seeing people with weight issues now that they see someone who is height-weight proportionate or even slender and it looks scary-thin to them.
People's perceptions are all fucked up.
That aside - Grace Jones is kinda badass to me. I always feel this weird mix of admiration, fascination and fear everytime I see her . 비

Anita was not on that stage.

8:30 to 8:45, those aren't "healthy" chicks.
at 8:58, that chick is "healthy"
Even when I was 118 my hipbones weren't THAT visible!
Besides, most of these women probably have never given birth to children. that changes a woman's body. Considering they are models they probably starved to have that I'm gonna cut your ass apart with my hipbones look. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Ruth's granddaughter as far as I know isn't singing with them anymore. Some other girl replaced her. Don't know if she's a relative of the Pointers yet.

Some of them look healthy. Some of them need to put their clothes back on. The problem isn't the girls, it's the fashion/beauty industry and the unhealthy images they perpetuate. I know there are people who are naturally rail thin. But I also know so many people look at their perfectly natural, healthy, physically fit bodies and compare themselves to the fake images they see in magazines and think there is something wrong with their bodies. So many models go to unhealthy extremes in order to maintain the very gaunt look designers want. And really what the designers want is an adolescent girl with no hips, thighs, butt, or breasts; a walking clothes hanger if you will. That's why they scout these girls when they are very young. I bet many of the girls on that stage are in their very early teens and have no business buying sexy lingerie much less parading around in it in on the world stage. That's disturbing. Some models are naturally thin and some tried to look thin but fail. It all comes with how it's perceived from the public's eyes.

Ruth Pointer, Sadako Pointer Johnson (the blond) and Issa Pointer; the last-named was a last minute and presumably temporary replacement for Anita Pointer who did not feel up to travel due to an unnamed health concern. Look at images or footage of famine victims.
...Then look at those girls.
Twenty years ago people would've looked at those girls and no one would've blinked an eye. Right now the obesity epidemic is so rife and commonplace that people are used to seeing the human body in a grossly distorted form and as a result it's skewed our perception. Now we think right is left and up is down. Seeing a body at a healthy weight is so uncommon that it seems foreign and people confuse an unhealthy bodily state (obesity) for a healthy one.
Similarly to how if you grow up in an abusive household, that's 'normal' to you. Same concept.
I stand by what I said.

Being that models, historically, have maintained their skinny weight by abusive measures (overdieting, pills, alcohol, drugs, eating disorders)....

That's not what I'm saying. Yes, I'm fully aware that eating disorders are a legitimate mentall illness. And I'm fully aware tha some women do starve themselves.
Having said that, there's a world of difference visually between someone that's truly emaciated and someone that is just naturally slender. You know it, I know it. Just like I stated in my post above, if you look at those girls and then look at pictures of famine victims or even women with severe anorexia, you can clearly see what I'm talking about. These girls are just fine and a healthy weight.
The problem isn't them or their eating habits, the problem is how pervasive obesity is in modern society. Like I said before, if you're exposed to something enough you start to see it as normal healthy and natural and the opposite as somehow abnormal. Even if what you're used to, isn't healthy.
People are so used to seeing a distorted, unhealthy version of the female body that now to see a healthy one - it looks weird and sickly to people because people are used to seeing people carry around all this extra flesh.
Something is wrong when pretty much every time people see a woman who isn't obese (or approaching it), you have people talking about how much they need to eat. I'm height-weight proportionate, not underweight at all and have a healthy, average appetite and I've even had people imply that I'm too thin. In some places on the human body, yes, you're supposed to be able to see bones. The human body is supposed to have some definition and areas where you can see the structure (bones) below the flesh.
When you keep in mind that natural, intended, healthy state of the human body and then look at those girls - they're just fine.

Someone addressed me and made some comments, I answered them.
Threads evolve beyond the original topic all the time anyway. If you have a problem with it you always have the option of scrolling past; expecting everyone else to make choices according to your own personal preferences is narcissistic and self-absorbed.
The world doesn't revolve around you and it's not always about what *you* want.

Nice generalization and stereotyping there.
A small percentage of the modeling population has eating disorders and resorts to starvation and other unnatural means.
Your comments make about as much sense as (and just as offensive and ignorant as) saying all ballet dancers starve themselves, or all homosexual men are promiscuous party animals.
Food for thought. 비 | |
