This whole album was my ISH, lol. I was hanging out with a bunch of Cholo's in East L.A. when this was out.

I remember it from when I was a kid, when gangsta rap was great. Seriously, look at how many lyrics in that song and the message of frustration it conveys (At the time the LAPD were known for racial profiling and it was just b4 the Rodney King beating). It may be crude gangsta rap, but it has a message and a solution. This is not crap rap, this was art a masterpiece of some of the finest MC's around. Compare it to all the gangsta rap today about trap houses, rims, booty, drugs and bragging, that music has few lyrics and just lots of break downs and repeated chorusses.

This was when rap meant something, loud, crude, in yop face, but the most lyrical finess and raw style around anywhere. That whole album was da shit.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

That whole period was the high point og gangsta rap. NWA, Ice Cube, Too Short, Boogie Down Productions and Ice motherfuckin T. When I was 13 to 16 I got my hands on as much gangsta rap as I could asorbing the rhymes, the messages, the funk. In those days (1989-1993) many rap recordings were banned here, and we all passed around underground tapes. My biggest prizes were a complete album of straight out of Compton, and a full album of Two Live Crew with Naughty nursery rhymes, we want some pussy and all of that shit (It was banned them).

I would probably still like hip hop if an MC with the talent of Ice T or Ice Cube came out now (Except these new guys are nothing like that, compared to Ice, 50cent is a bunch of shit and Eminem is about effective as Vanilla Ice was).

Best Albums in that period

Straight outta Compton

Power

Iceberg

Death Certificate

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Ice Cube is a brilliant lyricist. People rarely look beyond his gangsta image. He´s much more than that and a very smart person. His concert last summer was the highlight of the year for me, I had a blast and enjoyed myself much more than I did at the last Prince show I went to. lol

I grew up with early Westcoast HipHop....Egyptian Lover, NWA, Wreckin´ Cru, Stereo Cru., C.I.A, Ice-T.

Ice-T´s first album is one of my all time favorite albums...much better than anything he released before or after.

I really like a lot of Cube´s newer songs, too. I kinda lost interest in him for a while but Raw Footage and his last album contained some real gems, albeit flawed by the presence of a few really weak songs...but still, after all these years, Ice Cube is as energetic, charismatic and smart and talented as he´s ever been. Really like that guy. He was the brain behind NWA, the mastermind.

He knows a lot about architecture, too.

NWA was actually more smarter and intellectual than anyone would credit them for. Half of them didn't have as much experience on the streets as Eazy-E did but they knew about it well (which is why Ice Cube was able to write the songs he did, he didn't actually have to live it 100% to see how it was). In fact, most "gangsta" rap groups and artists had a lot of intellectuals who decided life in the streets was not worth it and that they wanted to better themselves even if what they rapped about wasn't what they were living as (*coughIceTcough*).

Oh, come on. He DID commit a few crimes before he became a big star. He took part in a robbery (I think they robbed a jewelry store), and he REALLY had a car accident in his cheap Porsche. And he used to breakdance.

Dude kept it real. lol

Plus he was in the Army.

Wu-Tang had a larger impact and is much more 'iconic' than NWA.

Sorry.

Plus they aren't a bunch of actors portraying shit that they didn't experience.

Are we there yet!?
