Strings

I'm really loving music with strings in at the moment, artists like: Antony and the Johnsons, The Irrepressibles, Tindersticks, Andrew Bird, Scott Walker etc.

Anyway, I would like to know of any more artists like these please?

Please, no metal bands that use strings! They're all that come up when I google it!

Looking for more Melancholic music please.

Thanks!

Bird was an innovator in this department. I'd check this compilation out:

I'm amazed that this album STILL causes division between Jazz enthusiasts.

What is it with Jazz purists and strings? Even the mere mention of it seems to revolt them lol

Agreed though, great set.

Now we're talking, can you recommend an album by him? As much as I love ALL of his work, I still haven't gotten around his solo stuff.

I was listening to Chaka's "Egyptian Song" earlier and I wish a strings track exist, I would savor that thing for SO long love music

The weird part is, most of the stuff off the top of my head isn't even in print anymore! most of the CD stuff is him with his trio, playing Latin Jazz--but here's a few interesting ones, if you can find them....

I guess they reacted like Dylan's acolytes when he went electric. I'm not advanced enough as a student to be a purist, but my guess is they saw/see it as selling out, when Bird just saw it as pushing the envelope even further.
