Diamond Dave and the boys have still got it. The song takes a long time to build its momentum, but that's where Eddie adds the right amount of blowtorch guitar.

Like I posted om other thread, new song is a grower for sure, a slow burn that gets better with repeated listenings. Fun and catchy. I think most were expecting something more "explosive" straight out the box, especially after such a long build up. Lol. Myself included.Kinda reminds me how I felt when I first heard Jump. But this is fun and brought a smile to my face. The full album will reveal all. cool

Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

It's a little too close to that Van Hagar formula for me to love it, but the chorus helps some.

I do hope the rest of the record is more interesting than this. It will be my first VH purchase since 1986!

I think the rest of the album will surprise and impress, though I dig the new song. And to disagree, at least lyrically, this is way more clever than most Hagar lyrics. Imo. Up for Breakfast anyone? Lol...wink

It may not be a masterpiece but I like it. It's very catchy. I thinkwith each listen it will grow on me. I like that it sounds 80s! Diamond Dave's still got some moves I see.

I agree. It's a grower. I suspect once people give it a few lsitens, let it sink in, they'll dig it. It's already stuck in my head. Lol. Masterpiece? Not so much.Fun and very catchy? Yes. Welcomed return? Absolutley yes!

cool

Great song. The vocals are superb too. But Dave looks all kinds of crazy old uncle. He looks out of place with that Von's manager haircut.

It does sound like Dave's later solo work. Definitely not their best on the record. Too bad they didn't release "She's The Woman" as a first single. It has that classic VH swagger that people have been waiting for. This is kinda like when Prince releases a weaker more commercial track instead of one that would blow everyone away.

It is quite infectious though. It takes off toward the end of the song!

Agreed. I like it. I think when all is said and done people will warm up to it. I believe everyone was expecting something more hard hitting right out the box. I do hope the release at least 1 other track for us to hear before the full album is released. With all the hype and momentum I'm thinking they might. cool

Loving Dave's moves, but Ed looks like shit and the (visual) production quality is terrible.

The song is mediocre, but I still like it better than anything since maybe Finish What Ya Started. Something quite odd about it--especially around the pre-chorus. Dave is either incredibly cool, incredibly dorky or both. It is almost like a joke, but I like it anyway. It has the old VH quality that made me like them in the first place, that they completely lost with Hagar

I figured out what it is about Roth. He is in the wrong clothes for his doofy movies AND he is ding that vaudville stuff from Crazy From The Heat era instead of the classic VH snake charmer shit. Those moves in those clothes at least make it look too damn silly.

Ed has aged yes, but his stu;e and demeanor seems classic imo.

Fans Claim Van Halen's New Song 'Tattoo' Sounds Like a 1977 Outtake

January 10, 2012

When Rolling Stone spoke with Sammy Hagar in November, he told us that he heard the new Van Halen record was largely comprised of old music. "I mean stuff from before I even joined the band," Hagar said. "Ed and Dave didn't actually write new songs. They took old stuff from previous sessions, and then maybe Dave had to go in and add vocals because they just had scat vocals, or even no vocal part at all."

It was impossible to know at the time if his claims were true, but at Van Halen's Café Wha? gig last week the one "new" song they released, "She's The Woman," dates back to a demo tape the group made in 1976.

This morning they debuted their new single and video "Tattoo," and hardcore fans immediately noticed that it sounded strikingly similar to "Down in Flames," a song they played live in 1977 but never actually put on an album.

That track was fun. So was the video. Haters need to get over it because guess what? YOUR CHILDHOOD IS LONG GONE, NEVER TO COME BACK! Jeez. In short, I liked it.

Anyway, so VH is pulling a Prince here?

Calm down RRA people just have different opinions lol

As a diehard fan, this was ok. LOVED the solo, and the chorus was pretty good but this sounds so thrown together. And i know the DLR era people will say will his lyrics where not peotry yada yada. No but he was CLEVER, These lyrics where not and where just silly. And even Dave had some darker roots on his best writing the Fair Warning album wink

This track didn't excite me much, but i still have hope for the album. Especially since it's of old material from the band that i have heard and love biggrin

there is part of DLR that looks like he still can't believe he is back, where of course he used to own the role without question. This is somewhat endearing but really dorky. And yeah his style is of another era and not hard rock.

As for Poundcake, it's probably a better song, but I just don't like Sammy in VH. I like him personally, and he has some serious pipes, but my personal prejudice says "no."

For some reason or other I always liked Finish What You Started, though. The only Sammy song I really like.

As stated many times, I like it. People over at a CVH site are loving it also. Anyway, anyone think that the reverse fade in to the song sounds like it's from some kind of longer intro piece? You know to start the album off. I dunno. Sounds like it to me. It's so abrupt a beginning.

I'm wondering if the video is supposed to be underwelming to make a point? It almosts seems like it's being tongue in cheek and sarcastic in a way. Lol. But I could care less, I really like the song. It def grows on you. I've stated elsewhere this isn't go to impress the "IGG", instant gratification generation, mostly. It definitely doesn't knock you out on first listen. It's not that type of song. Imo. Give it repeated listens w/o viewing the video. lol. That may help I dunno. If not, so be it. To each his own.

I still think the album will be great. cool

Sounds like an outtake from Skyscraper, but with Eddie sitting in.

It does get catchy as you listen. That punky angst is just gone. Similar to why Prince is not as good.
