This is the only song recorded by the brothers than I can say I really loved! "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I discovered Heartbreak Hotel around the same time as Can You Feel It (during BOTDF era) , but didn't know the song name yet and assumed it was from the Bad album which I hadn't bought yet, I only still had mj's 90's albums at the time and a record single one of my parents had in the 70's. I've come a long way since! [Edited 1/25/12 10:10am]

I remember when this song/video was released. Saturday morining American Band Stand with Dick Clark, he was sitting amongst the kids on his show. Traditional when Clark sat in the audience, you knew a band was going to be introduced. That particularl Saturday he said, "we're going to do something a little bit different, The Jacksons have released a song with a video".

I think I remember hearing the video was made for being introduced on TV rather than making an appearance with it cause either MJ wanted to do something different this time, or the management suggested it.

Actually, no. Besides the single releases, I haven't listened to either album in it's entirety. I picked up both CDs a few years ago because they were only a buck each, but, no, I haven't really listened to them. I may get around to it soon. Some of the discussions on this board has made me realize the vast number of CD's I actually own that I've never fully listened to.
But, back to the song. "Can You Feel It" was the first Jacksons song that struck a chord with me the very first time I heard it. I can't say the same for any of their other single releases. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

You didn't like Heartbreak Hotel? Well I knew the Destiny and Triumph singles in the 90's, but didn't bother buying the albums until sometime after the MSG concert and just for those, but I was surprised by how brilliant the albums were start to finish, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised yourself

I bet the Hertbreak Hotel and Can You Feel It demos are gold!

Honestly? It's not bad, no, and I appreciate the message in the song, but they've done better tracks.
"All I Do is Think of You", shits all over this. Hell, so does some of the songs from 'Victory', even. 비

Love MJ's vocals on this song. You can tell when a song was made with love as opposed to being made to fill up space. I like the vid too!
Madonna samples this music in Material Girl. I remember a DJ friend playing the songs back to back and then speeding up the Jackson's song and that was the first time I started really listening to the tracks versus the lyrics. Its a wonderful feeling now to be able to catch song jacking no matter how overt or subtle. Like Janet jacking Johnny Gill who jacked DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

Lisa Coleman's dad, Gary L. Coleman played the vibraphone on the Triumph album and this track in particular.

One of the first videos I consciously remember seeing aired on MTV in the early days. Awesome. Funk Is It's Own Reward

Great song, great music, great lyrics, great album, and great video. I tell ya, the Destiny/Off The Wall/Triumph/Let's Get Serious era was the best ever of The Jacksons. Andy is a four letter word.

Seriosuly? They say their were no black video artist shown in the early days until Prince and MJ around 82. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I know...it's weird. I know it was around the first few DAYS they were on the air (was watching at my granadma's house of all places).....and MTV was hardly "iconic" for such material....but it really was a rare piece of high quality (production value-wise) video of the time. Probably got air time just because of that fact: not that many music videos to run in summer '81. Funk Is It's Own Reward

"Can You Feel It" video preceded the lauchned of MTV by a year. I"m sure MTV at some point aired the Jackson's video but MTV thought of it self as "Rock & Roll" music channel.

I remember seeing this video on American Bandstand when I was little.
Yeah, 1981-era MTV was rarely black-pop friendly (unless Phil Collins or Hall & Oates were singing it). Of course we know things changed after Thriller. Hey...

One of thew best concert intros i've heard on record and cd (and seen in less quality on youtube). Knight Tito with his torch hyping up the crowd while a triumphant section of blazing horns are getting everyone ready. Then massive strobes of light glow up behind the silhouettes of the brothers standing there.
I'm eagerly waiting for a complete and HQ dvd of this tour being released.

It was so good that Blackstreet sampled it in 1999
