Morris Albert ~ Feelings You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I've always liked this song, so I don't know what "jumping the shark" is supposed to mean. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I'm with you as cheesy as most people think it is I've always liked it. I have it on a 70's comp. cd. I would have liked to hear Presley doing his version of the song. EDIT: Brazilian singer/songwriter Morris Albert scored a big hit in South and Central America with his number "Feelings" before it was released in the USA, where it reached the top ten. It went on to become a worldwide hit. The Paris Appeals Court convicted Albert of plagiarism in 1987, forcing him to pay half a million dollars to French composer Louis Gasté who had accused Albert of using his composition Pour Toi as the basis of Feelings. ^^The O'Jays version is pretty good. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I like it too This is one of those songs that gets heavily criticized and dismissed as "schlock" but I love 70s songs like this. It's smooth, melodic and sounds better than the crap that's on the charts these days.

It's not "cool" to listen to soft music, especially for males. They have to listen to hard, angry, & aggressive stuff or "keepin' it real" music. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
