Everytime one of these people signed a deal,it was reported to be "the biggest recording deal" even when Prince signed his deal in 1992,they were saying it was bigger than both Michael's and Madonna's (which obviously wasn't the case). It's all media hype.

Didn't Whitney sign a huge recording deal in 2003 or so? Worth $100 miliion? This was during her drug phase,so we all know where alot of that money really went.Sorry, someone had to say it

see i knew Mariah was the one to get a bigger deal than Janet and then later Michael got the bigger deal.... although Virgin dropped her after Gllitter... I think to this day she has the best deal for walking away.. I think they gave Mariah like 28 mill as a parting gift...

Not only do I refuse to believe Whitney is broke(or even close to it) I refuse to believe she could have spent millions of dollars of drugs, at least not to the point to where she was broke. Like she said "show me the receipts" lol.

I never thought Madonna was a one hit wonder. I bought her debut after hearing 'Holiday' because I knew she had a career in front of her. I don't really like her debut, but it was a good start. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

i never heard anybody say they thought madonna was a one hit wonder, she didnt get much respect but she was mtv's darling, they promoted the hell out of her. i loved her debut (wasnt that the one with holiday, borderline, ect ?)

I doubt Whitney is broke the way regular folks are broke. She could still pay my rent 20x over. Whitney is just rich people broke. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

yeah, that's why she was trippen on that commercial flight, it's a long drop from private Gulfstream jest to being herded on a plane like cattle. But like I said, she'll be alright'.

I don't think it's impossibe for Whitney to be broke. She's quite fond of expensive things...furs, mansions, large amounts of drugs...those things really add up especially when you are not investing or saving and you aren't bringing in any money. Toni Braxton has filed bankruptcy twice and anyone who has seen 'The Braxton Family Values' show can clearly see why. Home girl don't shop at the Thrift store let's be real. If you aren't working, aren't saving or investing; but are constantly dropping large amounts of cash on material things it's not hard to go broke in today's overpriced economy. Ex-NFL player Terrell Owens made $80 million in his professional career and now dude is broke and friendless.

Mike Tyson had more money than almost anyone and he went broke. There are billionaires who have gone bankrup (but many were able to rebuild their fortunes over time)t:

Yep, it is totally possible for Whitney to be broke. I hope she isn't but I don't doubt that it's possible one bit. So sad watching someone with such an amazing voice destroy their gift and squander their riches on stupidness. Makes me angry and sad all at the same time. I loved Whitney but I won't buy any albums from her ever again because I won't keep funding her drug habit and irresponsible behavior...I just can't help financially support the train wreck anymore. Singing a deal doesn't mean you automaticly get the money....you have to do something for it, like release albums. As she only released one album since than, she didn't get 100 million!

Even if she is, I'm not entirely sure how that's anyone's business but hers? 비

Toni is different. She was never in Whitney's league and she never made Whitney money. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

She should totally hook up with Terrel Owens. They'd make a great couple.

The only even KIND OF serious response for this is; if she's broke, but not in debt, she needs to get her ass out on the road. Do 100-150 shows over the next year or two and she'll be fine.

That would require some great re-envisioning of her as a performer. The days of Whitney's voice being the star of the show are gone. And I think she's too stubborn or proud (or in denial of the reality of the situation) to lipsync her way through a tour (not that audiences today would care or even notice if she did; most everybody else is). Whitney would probably make out good setting up shop in Vegas (or some other large tourist destination) and concoct some sort of lavish extravaganza and let the people come to her.

Oh,I'm aware of that I know how these deals work. They don't just hand over the money to an artist. But I'm sure she received a few huge advances.

What do you mean by this? For example, If a major label artist (who doesn’t write their own compositions) gets $2 per CD sold, then that’s considerably more than the 9 cents per composition paid to the songwriter who created the song for the artist that’s embodied on the CD that was sold (and that assumes the 9 cents wasn’t negotiated lower – which it normally is – and assumes there was only 1 writer). Of course, if the song is a radio hit, then that’s something different, but there are very few of those.

Songwriters have an advantage, though. They will forever be paid royalties on a song.Dolly Parton already made a fortune off Whitney's remake of "I Will Always Love You" but if someone else comes along and covers it in the future, that's even more money that she will make.
