Danger Mouse Producing Norah Jones' New Album

January 24, 2012

Link

The news of Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton producing Norah Jones' new album, Little Broken Hearts, probably doesn't come as that much of a surprise to anyone who listened to Burton's Rome project with Daniele Luppi.

The duo enlisted Jones to provide vocals for several tracks on the album, including highlight "Black."

As for Little Broken Hearts, it's due out this spring and was co-written entirely by Jones and Burton. Hopefully we can hear what this marriage of different styles sounds like soon.

Norah is top notch, to me the most diverse artist of the last decade, because she has mixed it up with everyone.

She never left, even when she isnt doing her stuff, she has her other bands El Madmo and also the Little Willies just released a record, she was on the last Jesse Harris record and Richard Julian, and of course "rome" and had her "featuring" record, and new stuff with Ryan Adams uncredited on his latest record, willie nelson too and the Jayhawks record. Over the Last 10 years overall has had the most product out there in different forms (her own, duets, guest shots, instrumentalist producer) than any other artist.

I read on her discography. I agree that she is very eclectic.

I will say this she has been managed horribly. She was huge and her second release just pretty much went unheard of. sad

That "unheard" album (Feels Like Home) sold over 3 million copies.

Honestly i dont think Norah really cares, i mean she is on Blue Note and aside from catalog releases she is the cash maker, she sold more in the decade than any other female worldwide including Beyonce. Norah is a low key artist, she doesnt want that "light" so managing has been her decision, her second album sold 4xplatnum, to put that in todays terms, that is more than katy Perry and Rihanna have done with their albums combined, even Norah's third album sold 1.5 in the states and thats more than rihanna has done with all her hits, Norah has never even had a huge hit single. So im not really sure what people view in terms of her career? "come away with me" was a fluke, 10 million in the states 23 million worldwide, that is a fluke, and she is the first to say it. I saw Norah in clubs in NYC before she had a deal and was selling her demo cd for 5 bucks, that was who she was. And her work with an array of artists like Willie Nelson, Doll Parton, El Madmo, Herbie Hancock, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jesse Harris, Richard Julian, Qtip, Outkast, Nas, John Mellencamp, Ryan Adams, the Jayhawks, Gary Louris, Dave Matthews, Tony Bennett.... I mean come on now, she is most varied female in the last 50 years with that list, and thats 10 years of recording and that list is not even counting her side projects like the Little Willies, or her work with her band members Adam Levy.

So she has "managed" just fine, almost 50 million worldwide in sales, not bad for a girl that i saw open for Joan Rivers at Joe's in NYC in 2001. And thats without any form of HYPE

I'm just glad to not see her in no "bankruptcy" news and love it even more that she's low-key.

Well maybe she wants to be "low key" and bully for her, cause if you ask the majority of people are like "yeah whatever happened to Norah Jones."

That aint happening she is not that type that goes out and wastes shit like others have. WHen Come Away With Me was selling and rising the charts she still had a 1 room apartment in Brooklyn.

The low key thing is her, i remember when i saw with a bunch of people before at "Town Hall" in NYC and come away with me was out about a month or so, and someone said, "i wish she would get out from behind the piano" like Norah is supposed to do dance numbers now too, that is who she is, Come Away With Me was a low key album, debuted at No 139 and actually stalled at times before word of mouth caught on, but this was not a hyped up record by any means.

And its a natural thing, she doesnt flaunt, or really dress that it jumps in your face.

Yeah she is all over the place, and the new album is almost done recording and she is playing a wide tour during the summer through the fall. The "featurin" record is a great thing to listen to because you hear Norah in varied types of music and aritsts, i mean for her to jump from Outkast and Qtip to Charlie Hunter and Herbie Hancock, no one is doing that, at least not in the female side of things.
