Great song. I used to own a 45 rpm of the Bee Gees' version, which I never even knew they had released until about 8 years ago. Don't know why their version didn't make it onto the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Sadly, the US Postal Service lost it along with all my other 45's when I had them shipped cross country. MFers. pissed

Classic 70s track. IIRC, she also played Mary Magdelene in the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The producers of the movie were gonna use the Bee Gees version, but they decided that the song should come from a woman's point of view. They wanted this song to represent Annette's love for Tony.So a new version was recorded by Yvonne Elliman, produced by Freddie Perren.

Here's the Bee Gees version....

I think Yvonne's version is superior. The production by Freddie Perren is on point.

Wasn't born when it came out though it's my mom's favourite and I have the 45 through her. Loooooove this song, Yvonne's version. When I discovered it, I played it on repeat for sometime, and could really relate it to someone I loved and feel the emotions. I love the simplicity of her voice as well, there is a genuine quality to it.
