Einstein...hands up if you thought Mariah made up an equation about herself!
I love all three albums and bought them all the day they came out and played the heck out of them. Went for Janet's tour and met her backstage, on the 10th anniversary of first meeting her! And went to my first Madonna concert, though having awful seats.
Discipline: Love all the songs, but I dislike Curtains. This is one of her better albums of the 00's. Although people have said she doesn't sound strong here, her vocals are lush and soulful IMO and suit the music really well, even though she didn't write it, and in concert, she sounded very strong.
E=mc squared: Her vocals are really good, but it took awhile for this one to grow on me. The style is too similar on most of the songs, but the ones with samples from MJ and Debarge are awesome, and the harmonies are superb. I recall For The Record being a favourite.
Hard Candy: A fun, energetic album, just like COADF. I can't always play it start to finish or on repeat like COADF, but I like most of the songs and the melodies and grooves recaptured her early days well with a new twist. She works well with the producers than she gets credit for. Highlights: Beat Goes On and Dance Tonight.
Top 2 winners: Discipline and Hard Candy.

Funky, catchy, very 80's album with lots of upbeat tracks.
Discipline - not personal enough....sound like she was going through the motions around this era.
E=MC2 - Meh...she was trying too hard to get another hit...lots of midtempo tunes that went nowhere. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

None of these albums are great. "Feedback" is a very solid song, but i'll go with "Hard Candy" only because of "Miles Away" which to me is better than anything on either "Discipline" or "E=MC2". "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

I found Miles Away too monotone ...like she was bored or something. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Discipline/E=MC2 Tie for me. I didn't much like 'Hard Candy'. None of them are great, but Janet and Mariah's were good; Madonna's was decent.
Discipline, I Loved: Rock Wit U, 2Nite (one of my all time favorite Janet songs) and What's Ur Name
E=MC2, I Loved: Side Effects, Thanx 4 Nothin', Bye Bye

I don't know about comparing these two albums--which aren't the best by each singer by any means. But a comparison between Madonna and Janet is interesting because I have had debates over this. Both Janet and Madonna have talent but it is limited in comparison to other artists (say, Joni Mitchell--for a woman) but both of them were shrewd enough to pick co-writers, producers, and musical talents that let their talents shine. I would categorize Janet and Madonna more as entertainers than musical artists who are musicians and great singers. Both have made IMO some memorable albums over the years... Probably Madonna made better choices longer than Janet did. Which kept Madonna at the top of the charts. Now, we will see if Madonna's current choices pay off... Discipline with E=MC2 in a close 2nd place.
Rock With U is one of my favorite Janet songs and a lot other songs are amazing. Rollercoaster, LUV, and The 1 I could live without.
E=MC2 has one of Mariah's best hooks on Touch My Body (my favorite song on the album). However I just wish the album had a bit less guest rappers.
Hard Candy is my least favorite Madonna album. Miles Away and 4 Minutes are the only great songs. I still can't believe she made Hard Candy after Confessions On A Dancefloor.

Though it turned out nice overall, I totally agree. When Touch My Body came out, all I could hear was that she wanted it to go to #1 again to tie with the Beatles or something, from both her and the press, and she was following the success story of We Belong Together with most of the songs even though a lot of them are nice.

Yeah just like how they quickly put out Dont Forget About Us. I didnt get into any of theslow jams on that album other than I Wish You Well,,,even the uptempo tracks seemed like b-sides or left overs. Maybe it was rushed. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I remember there was backlash when she rereleased Mimi to include Don't Forget About Us so she could get a freebie of a hit. Before that, people released remix or revamped albums if they were falling on the charts, Mariah was doing so well with Mimi and did it, and though I was happy for her success, that was when I sort of started losing respect for her, and her stupid fans a few years back and then. And now we have Beyonce releasing 3 versions of each album even if they are doing well, plus Mariah rereleasing All I Want For Christmas over and over. What is she going to do next? Hero with Beiber?

trilogy of crap
but still HC is the best album here, if only because it includes Miles Away, She's Not Me, Give It to Me and Beat Goes On...
Mimi's albums are a joke (couple of single, 10 fillers), and Janet's albums after TVR have been ...disappointing, and I'm being generous...
