I will always love it, but the rush it gives me or I'm capable of getting is nil right now. I've been to concerts, I've collected like crazy, I have musical hobbies though I've gotten lazy with them, but I really feel dead and like something is missing and can try to accept that it is what it is for now, and maybe someday it'll come back. I find myself more into shows that make me laugh now, and I was the total opposite before, having too much of a low attention span to watch sitcoms. Even artists I like, though I will still put them on don't excite me like before. Sure Prince does and I'm so glad I finally saw him last year, but I feel like everyone I needed to see, for the most part, I have. I know there will be more performers, but I don't care right now. Kind of contradicting my thread here, but I can relate to Gold kinda.

There is so much great music out there from the last 50 years, you can't possibly have discovered it all. How diverse are your tastes? Perhaps it's time to broaden your horizons. In the last few months alone I've bought almost the entire back catalogues of Judas Priest and am in the middle of discovering the brilliance of Van Halen.

There are so many artists and bands to discover. Buy a Tori Amos album - that should set you up for a few years.

It's not just you. I haven't really been excited about music as a whole since I was a teenager; it's always just the random song here and there that makes me go apeshit, but most of the time I'm like, "Meh".

i think it happens as we get older but on the flip side music excites me more than ever. the way i dj my whole day - in the car, on the bose, on the ipod, in the car...and 5 of my top 6 faves are still alive and 4 of them tour (c'mone TINA!), so, i'll never get tired of seeing any of them, especially the number one. that's the beauty of it - you can still see your faves many more times over and they will surprise, sometimes disappoint, but always be there to go see again and again (we hope). idk. go dig deep into the catalog of someone all your friends and people on the org talk(ed) about for so long but you weren't that familiar with...and dig in. Like I did with Teena Marie last year - homegirl got me THROUGH 2011, no joke

I know what you mean. But then you'll find an album or song or style or artist that buzzes you or you'll rediscover someone you dismissed and with your change in age/perspective you'll find a new appreciation. It may not happen as often as it did when I was in my teens but there's plenty out there to still discover.

I listen to mostly older stuff, I don't hate it, I'm just tired and drained. Anything old or new I played alongside my favourites just depresses me. I like Van Halen and Teena Marie too, I just don't know every song. I've explored other genres too for years.

And I definitely know it's me and part of being depressed or drained. I just feel like for years, in my teens and the first half of my 20's, I would listen to it and feel like I live in a big world and I could become a part of that, whether in it or from afar cause of my hobbies too, and for the past 3 years, I just...grew up. I hate saying that, but everything feels so dull and I feel drained and I'm realizing there's nothing BIG to look forward to anymore and even though I worked hard for years at school and such and have a career, I felt it would be alongside the creative part of me, but now I'm stuck. There is no big bang to look forward to, now it's about making each day a good one the best I can, and I struggle with that. I do play a lot of music but it makes me down more than not

I feel the same way. For me, it think i'm bored because I listen to the same music over and over again. Since contemporary music makes my ears bleed, I can't listen to it. Therefore, I mostly listen to music I grew up on. After so many years of doing that, yes, you are going to get bored.

I'm curing that by going back and discovering what I missed the first time around. For example, I'm starting to rediscover Marvin Gaye. I only own a couple of his CDs. I went back a few weeks ago and listened to some albums that I originally didn't pay much attention to so I'm ordering those and adding them to my collection. I can't wait because even though they are old titles, most of the songs are going to be new to me.

Also, I'm starting to explore traditional Jazz, which I have always liked but I didn't really own a lot of it. So, I'm looking forward to going thru that musical journey.

And all of the reissues coming from Funkytowngrooves and Big Break keep me pretty excited about music.

I've been listening to 'mixtapes' by a rapper named Def Sound. He mixes up the music he likes to listen to and it's been very good from the 3 that I've heard so far. He's put me on to a lot of established artists I'd never think twice about on my own. He's also introduced me to artists who are up and coming and very talented. Sometimes you have to look outside the world you know and see what's being played on someone elses planet.

It doesnt have as much meaning in your life as it once used to. Old or new. You used to look forward to getting music, listening to it, reading about it etc. But not anymore. I hear ya.

I'm feeling the same. Just turned 40, I'm a musician & I'm constantly listening to something. Not that much is thrilling me these days tho.

I actually think the demise of the record label has a lot to do with it. I'm not getting marketed to as in days of old, and as a result... No bait, no hook.

I will say that i'm outgrowing Hip Hop/Rap music though (unless it's a rapper I really like) everything else I still enjoy listening to.

My feelings have changed a lot over the years. When I was a kid, it was like magic, getting a new album. I would have to save up, little bits of spare change that my parents would give me, for weeks sometimes to get a new album. It was a rare and exciting thing. I would play everything I did get over and over and over again. Even when college hit and I had no $$$, I'd have to scrimp and save for bills and food, so getting a CD was not to be chosen lightly.

These days there is such a flood of music, everything is instantaneously accessible at the click of a button, no more long searches through used bins or going to Tower Records to be amazed at stuff on the listening stations or browsing thru imports.

A lot has changed for me. I still am very passionate about music, but those feelings when I was younger will never be recaptured.

Not for me. Music is my life. In addition to enjoying the music I already own, I'm always discovering new songs and artists and that keeps it exciting for me. I love music way too much to ever really get tired of it.

Music is everything for me.

I'll never get tired of it.

And with the severe decline in quality of most genres over the years, honestly I can see why so many of us feel that way. Most music now is shit and not really worth getting excited over, and that's just the truth.

Whether you're able to relate to it or not, I got that excitement the most with MJ, and it's fading though I'm still a fan. I have other artists in my top 3/top 5 as well I would get so excited over, but though I still do get excited and go to their shows, it's different now and I'm calmer.
