AALIYAH

Tell me she is not the most gorgeous r&b female singer of the past decade!

Such an understated, sultry voice!

Perfectly compliments the songs. The best vocalist for Timbaland's productions EVER in my opinion.

I really liked her when I first saw the video for "Are You That Somebody", but never had an album until today, when I finally bought the self-titled album. I'm really getting into it now. Comes with a bonus DVD of 4 of her best videos. Highly recommended.

Can't wait for her best-of compilation "I Care 4 U" which is out on Feb 3rd here in Australia.

It's rare for me to get into a modern female r & b singer these days, but my tastes are "all over the shop" in music and if somebody is really talented, chances are I will get around to them eventually wink (I listen to many different things).

Aaliyah was so beautiful and talented and it's a shame that there are so many clones of her around now (Ashanti?).

RIP Aaliyah.

I just saw the video for "I Miss U" for the first time cry It's so trippy to see footage of someone alive, smiling, doing their thing. It really choked me up. I'm not sure why her death had such a profound effect on me but it really did. sad

She was talented, gorgeous, had a sweet spirit & was on her way to becoming a strong on-screen presence (which I was looking forward to). Taken so early in life, breaks my heart... bheart
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I still remember going to her candlelight vigil in Detroit. What a sad moment it was. She is sorely missed.

I've been playing the "Aaliyah" album myself- what a gorgeous, feminine voice she had. What a blessing it was to be exposed to her talents.

Yes she was a very beautiful lady, both inside and outside, a great role model. And I do believe that if she was still here she would have blown up big time. Her website is still up and every so often I go there just to see whats new. Her first CD, boy did we play the heck out of that CD trying to get thru MOS school, she surely is missed. Hopefully Alicia Keyes keep her head on straight and don't fall by the wayside. I think she make it big.

I agree. Aaliyah has the most feminine voice I've ever heard. Such a turn on! One in a Million is still one of my favorite albums to this day.

I did know Aaliyah's music from the very start. However I got interested in her after hearing "Are You That Somebody". I bought the "Aaliyah" album the day it was availlable over here-and what a great album that was. After her tragic death (rest in peace girl) I don't know why but i felt really bad about it-much more than Lisa Lopes' death even though i am a big fan of TLC for ages. I purchased the two first cds after she died and although they are really good (especially "one in a million") there is huge difference between them and the "Aaliyah" cd which shows what a great potential Aaliyah had and what a loss her loss was. The new songs on "I Care For You" cd take off from where the "Aaliyah" cd stops and fortunately there are closer in style to that cd than the other two. With the exception of "Don't Worry" they're all excellent. My favourite is "All I Need".I think that she was on top of her game and that makes her death even more tragic.

YES. I knew all of that from DAY ONE, that Aaliyah was something 'pretty special'. Most people grew 'fond' of her after that 'Somebody' song, but she has a lot of loyal fans...especially where I'm at...like 10 out of 10 will agree that she is the Princess of R&B, and had an extremely special persona that was felt through her music. I'm Glad I always knew...

In addition to the Ashanti comment, I NEVER saw her as a 'wannabe' Aaliyah, although I've heard some trying to claim she's like some sort of 'new' princess to R&B??? Uhhh, yeah right, but anyway, if anything, I was getting sick of some people whom I thought were really 'wannabe's, and one was Tweet, and it wasn't until recently that I kind of saw that her music did sort of have a different flavor, but when she came out with that video, 'Oh My', her movements, hairstyle, and 'look' was too much like Aaliyah, and I was like, what the heck was Missy and Timbaland thinking?!

But I don't know if that was for marketing purposes, and if it was that was messed up, and if it wasn't, it made it seem too obvious, but all of a sudden after Aaliyah passed, it's true that many others are looking more like Aaliyah's style in one way or another, people realized all late didn't they???!!!

But not Ashanti, not even her voice, she doesn't do a lot dance steps like Aaliyah, and doesn’t have a look sort of her like her either, so she is not no Aaliyah 'wannabe', only the name that I heard that was being claimed for her, and the funny thing is that even with all this, Aaliyah still can't be replaced, and I really don't think she ever will, she was just really 'special'...

R.I.P. Aaliyah.

Interesting. I never saw Tweet as an Aaliyah wannabee. I guess because she's so much older than Aaliyah, plus I knew about Tweet-- working on her cd-- while Aaliyah was alive.

But, as far as Ashanit, I agree, she doesn't have the same stage presence as Aaliyah. But, even though I don't see Ashanti as a great performer, I think eventually she'll turn into more of a song writer for other artists.

Aaliyah had it. Beauty that radiated from the inside out. She was a person that if you meet her it would change your life. I considered her family family. It hurts still to hear people bad mouthing her that it brings tears to my eyes that people would bad mouth someone they never met. She was an angel. Someone that will be sorely missed forever. Her smile made you believe that only God could make someone so beautiful. Her uncle that was married to Gladys Knight was my lawyer. Her whole family were very nice and it was not an act. It will take all long time to get over the grief in our hearts. Any of us would have rather taken her place in death. No words can describe how she was in person even as a child she knew what she wanted to make the world smile.
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

You said is perfectly. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten. She touched so many people- nothing will be able to get in the way of that. She embodied every facet of the word "beauty."

I absolutely agree, that video gets to me everytime I see it and it's such a beautiful song. Her death is such a loss, she's an angel...
