I saw a few years ago with my mom when she performed with Al Green and B.B. King. She made me blush a couple of times.

What was cool about her is she never went all religiousy like Al Green and Prince and others. She stayed dirty, nasty, but classy. She understood that music should be crunk.

She is the true queen of soul. Outsings Aretha Franklin any day of the week.

She wouldn't want us to mourn, so I bet when she went to heaven to told Amy Winehouse, "move over bitch, mama is home."

R.I.P To one of the greatest blues/soul singers of all time Etta James, i remember buying the At last! Album and being blow away by the infectious beautiful tone of her vocal melodies on Trust In Me, I Just Want To Make Love To You & All I Could Do is Cry. A Great one to be remembered

Rest in peace Etta. I never heard of her until Obama's Inaugural Ball when she threatened to whoop Beyonce's ass for singing her song and that right there alone is reason enough to love her. lol Apparently, Miss Etta had fire in her and I love folks with fire in them. Great song, by the way...Etta's version that is.

So sad to hear about her passing!

I was just talking about her while listening to her songs just YESTERDAY. How much soul and truth were in her! It's such a sad day! 'At Last life, my lonely days are over, and life is like a song.." Such beautiful anthem she song with passionate skill. Etta James, was hilarious and so piercing with her vocals and was just SOUL, GRACE, STRUGGLE, CLASS personified!
