Jam of the Day: "Kung Fu Fighting" by The Village People

They did an absolutely excellent job remaking this song. From the voice, all the way down to the music, it sounds just like the Carl Douglas original.

No it's not. Don't you see the title on the video and the pictures of The Village People at the front of the video?

Andy, I'm afraid that's Carl Douglas's version with some pictures of the Village People.

Not really a new thing though. Some people in the 1970's thought a group named Klaatu was really the reunited Beatles. lol

I came in specifically to state that this isn't a Village People song, then saw in the OP that it's about a cover and not the actual song.

So there's pretty much no fucking reason for me to be here. lol

Exactly. And what trips me out with this one, is they even put pictures of The Village People at the front of the video. Apparently, they had to go on the internet to get the pictures so they could have taken an extra few seconds to also go on the internet and find out who the real artist of the song is before they make a fool of themselves. lol

I can kinda see that one because they do sound a little bit similar but if they've got to go on the internet to even post the video, they can also google the song and get the real artist if they aren't sure who it is. It's not like the old days when if you didn't know the artist of a song, you had to call a radio station or record store to find out.....and if you were to do that these days, you'd be out of luck too because the folks in the radio and record store business are just as ignorant to music as the average person on the street. lol

True lol, but having read the comments on youtube below the clip, i got the impression that some were still so sure that Mtume recorded it neutral

even though they could easily google it and even that in some comments the obvious proof was posted that it was indeed recorded by Juicy lol

I find it silly when a song on Youtube is labeled as "Michael Jackson", no matter how insignificant his contribution is, and the actual artist is not credited at all. Plus the videos contain a bunch of Mike photos.

I've seen them do that with Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" and anything by the group, The Jacksons.

I've seen it with We Are The World, Muscles by Diana Ross, and songs by Joe King Carrasco, Kenny Loggins, & Minnie Riperton. lol Someone even had Donna Summer's State Of Independence labeled as Michael Jackson, and he's only a background singer amongst a bunch of others. lol His voice is not noticeable in the song.

OK, a stupid question:

If you're going to remake a song so that it sounds EXACTLY like the original, why bother?

And if you succeed, why would that be considered an excellent job?
