Ashanti Launches Indie Label

Ashanti is taking the independent route with her next album. A day after releasing her Busta Rhymes-assisted single, the R&B diva has officially announced her new record deal.

The Grammy-winning singer will release her fifth album, the follow-up to 2008’s The Declaration, through her own label Written Entertainment under a worldwide distribution and label services deal with eOne Music. She was previously signed to The Inc./Universal Motown.

The first single from the 2012 release, “The Woman You Love,”features Busta Rhymes and was produced by Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis (The Fugees, Mary J. Blige). It is available now on iTunes.

“eOne is proud to have a partnership with Ashanti and her label Written Entertainment,” said Alan Grunblatt, President of eOne Music. “Ashanti truly has the independent entrepreneurial attitude that eOne was built on, and we’re thrilled to be working with her.

Ashanti added, “I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence. They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win! The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a business woman this was a great move for me!”

The inclusion of a guest rapper on the lead single is not the route I might have taken. And how was that supposed to help bolster an already lackluster song?

That's a really good song. I will buy the album if the quality of music is as good as this song.

It's okay. Believe me i have heard far worse in this climate.

She gets a bad rap from the whole best new artist thing

with Alicia Keys several years ago and being associated with

Murder Inc but Ashanti hasn't done anything imo to get the

venom thrown at her way and i'm speaking of stuff outside of

music if you're one who doesn't like her music.

I agree.... I am not a Ashanti fan but I do like her as a person and have great respect for her

She doesnt care about hit records or being in the spotlight, at one point obviously but that was like years ago LOL... She is comfortable with her status and just wants to make music because thats something she enjoys whether she is good at it or not... I think making this move to move to an Indie label might help her grow as artist and help her to be more creative because she isnt put on a pedestal not only that she is pretty
