No shade but Freddie and Vesta seem like a waste of film and time..... they are "unsung" for a reason. Freddie was nothing more than an imitation of Luther Vandross and a poor man's Peabo Bryson. Peabo & Luther would wipe the floor with Freddie in a singing competition so he has always been useless to me. His music is bland and white washed as well like a black Barry Manilow. He had his time and success and thats IT. He is nobody's legend. lol lol lol

Vesta was nothing more than an overglorified back up singer. I will NEVER get the small hype about her since her death. Her songs were lame and her singing was awful most of the time. She should have been smart like Lisa Fischer & Cissy Houston and just made a career out of background singing and make a killing. SMH

I love the initial idea of Unsung but they need better artists to cover and give us true insight into like Cameo, Etta James, Bill Withers, LaBelle etc.

eek

To me, Freddie's situation is a lot like Lufer's...you know what's going on, but no one speaks on the elephant in the room. It's something that's not said, but understood. Just how I see it. Now as far as his major weight loss, I believe he's been sick but concealing the illness.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yeah I doubt he'll reveal it on Unsung about his weight loss but I did dig what he said about people questioning his sexuality in the snippet I saw. Luther gave that same message.

He'll probably talk about his weight loss but do you think he's going to use Unsung to officially come out of the closet? He's probably just going to give very vague responses just like Luther did during one of his last interviews. I think he should just go ahead and come clean. There's no danger in him losing record sales anymore.lol But, I guess there could be the issue of a potential label not choosing to pick him up because of his sexuality.

I actually bought Freddie's album back in the day-the one with Jam Tonight on it and it had about four good songs on it lol I've never listened to Freddie again since. As for his weight loss hmmm I don't know-if he lost it for health reasons then good, if he is hiding an illness then I hope he heals.

Here is what he had to say about his weight loss:

Freddie Jackson is brushing off speculation that his new physique is due to a medical condition.

When Freddie took the stage in Atlanta to perform at the Soul Train Awards this year, people were surprised to see how much weight he’d lost. Immediately, people began to whisper about what might be behind his weight loss—there were even rumors that he’d had a kidney transplant.

Freddie told S2S, though, that nothing could be further from the truth. “Why can’t a Black man just lose weight without having to die of AIDS or having a kidney problem?” he asked when told about all the hearsay.

“I don’t have a kidney problem. Freddie Jackson just went on a diet,” said Freddie, who wanted to slim down in order to avoid ailments like diabetes. “I am healthy. I just went on a diet.”

The “You Are My Lady” singer decided to change his look more than a decade ago after taking a long hard look in the mirror. When he realized that he had 46-inch waist, he put a plan together that included a low-carb diet.

Of course, he knew that changing his eating habits would only get him so far.

“I was swimming, walking, flexing. I did all the things I could do before I turned 50. I didn’t want to be a big, fat, overweight singer,” Freddie said. “I did what I could do for myself to make my appearance right.”

He added, “What you saw on TV was a life-changing situation that makes me look good to be 53 years old.”

All told, it took Freddie nearly 11 years to become that man that stepped out on stage in Atlanta last month. He couldn’t have been happier to unveil his new look while getting a chance to catch up with old friends backstage at the Soul Train Awards.

“It just made me feel so good to see people that I had not seen in a long time face to face. It was a remarkable experience for me, and one that I am getting myself ready for more of,” he said.

To see Freddie’s new physique with your own eyes, you can see him at B.B. King’s Blues Club in New York on February 14. Freddie will soothe fan with some of his signature hits then excite them with a few songs from his new album For You.

Same thing I said. A man (especially a black man) can't lose weight without people whispering.disbelief

^^^Not disrespecting your opinion, but to me, I'm not purposely saying that there HAS to be a reason why he has lost weight. The reason why I've said that he must had lost weight as a result of an illness is because he doesn't look healthy to me. Now let's take Heavy D for example (God rest his soul)...he lost weight and no one said, that I could remember, that he was sick. He actually lost weight to the point where he actually LOOKED healthy, so no one would question even question that.

Freddie on the other hand, in my eyes, DOES look sick. Similar to how Freddie Mercury (God rest his soul) started to look once people started figuring out that he was INDEED sick although he kept denying it until he revealed his illness when he got good and ready.

With that said, there's nothing wrong with a "black man" losing weight. It's just that if the weight loss doesn't look natural, that's when people talk. People talked with Aretha lost all that weight too.

And let's be for real, at the Soul Train awards, Freddie came out switching his hips harder than Rupaul on a catwalk in New York Fashion Week. Honey, no.

True. Never really realized he had that many hits. I like some of them, and even though I'm not a die hard fan of his, he did pretty well for his time.

But what's up with Unsung? Are Soul Train clips/performances all they could find to show of him? lol Just saying. Besides the one clip where the woman got her booty all on his privates lol

WTF? Is it the 90's up in here? confused

Do you all serious think that he would not be getting proper medical treatment if he had AIDS/HIV? Only in cases where people are not getting early treatement are they dying of this desease nowadays. Unless you live in a third world country or are not getting treatment, AIDS/HIV is no longer a death sentence.

Come on folks! Just cause someone shakes their hips hard it don't mean they are dying of AIDS.

Can't believe people on this thread insinuating he is sick or has aids, because he lost weight. Very mean to say something like that. I think if he did it would have gotten out by now. Plus his high energy perfomances says otherwise.

What I wanna know is how/why did Freddie fall off like he did in the early 1990's after scoring 18 top ten singles (15 top fives; 10 #1's)? Surely he had a strong fanbase and was making lots of money for someone. Was the music he was putting out just that bad or out of touch with the times?

The same reason every other 70s-80s star fell of in the mid 90s not named MJ, Janet or Prince.
