From doing a lil research Freddie identified as Bi through out his life. So according to the rules HES OUT.

Do we know this self identification was made from being truly bi-sexual or made as a self-judgment about being completely gay? Virtually all my gay friends, including myself, claimed bi-sexuality as a cruth on the way to declaring full fledged homosexuality.

so that means that all who do, are like you and your friends?

i swear mods - you all are the first to lock a double thread or snip shit that has to do with RACE...but when people are so cavalier and rude about a whole section of people who self identify one way in terms of sexuality, i guess it's ok. for a Prince fansite - im shocked. maybe i need to check out something else. this is a mess and it's FUN!

I could care less whether they admit it or not. Almost all Black artists will never admit it: Whitney Houston, Little Richard, Michael Jackson, Dee Dee Warwick, Billy Preston, Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson, Queen Latifah, Donny Hathaway, etc. all never admitted it. The Black community has major problems accepting homosexuality, especially from males and always will. It goes against The Bible, and is considered the ultimate no-no. Even Tevin Campbell, who solicited a cop to suck his pee pee denies he is. So I call a spade a spade. It is what it is.

I agree that there are a LOT of closeted/non-out artists that could make the list. But, I also kind of agree with OP, that they shouldn't be included. What's the point if they'll never acknowledge themselves as great gay artists? And, if we start including artists who were never out, then it the list quickly becomes bogged down with not only those artists that everyone basically agrees is/was gay/lesbian, but also a lot of artists where no one really knows for sure. It all becomes Bossip-style rank speculation leading to all the attendant arguments over whether this or that artists actually is gay. To avoid that, I like OP's idea of only incuding those who acknwoledged their sexuality at some point. Yes, that leaves many great artists out of contention, but it is what it is.

Can I get an Amen!!!

What is it with African Americans and their blood red homophobia, for a group of people who go on about being accepted and super quick to scream racism at everything mildly controversial, they show very little tolerance to homosexulaity.

Its seen as effeminate and bad and they go on about punks and the few who are gay masculinise it with this down low crap. Why can't gay black men love themselves for who they are, instead of hiding behind the bible and macho bullshit. I respect the out black guys like Kele Okereke and Rashann Paterson, but come the fuck on, Little Richard is the gayest person alive and he still denies it hiding behind God and his so called Bisexuality, the dude invented fucking Jheri Curls for fucks sake.

Blame Africa and its DRACONIAN laws against gays. I am glad to be from a group of people that respects gays and lesbians and where we are not scared to hide from the truth. No doubt some dude will flame this post and I will be pilloried like the latest James Earl Ray. But here goes.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

what they're saying basically, without any other qualifying statements, is that everyone who is bi is just 'confused' 'doesn't exist' and is just on the way to accepting being fully gay. that's been the tone of many people on here as well...i just think for a place that is so big on race and supposed equality, i think people could afford to think before they write that type of shit, or say something in addition to it that QUALIFIES the statement. "But that's in my case...that's what happens sometimes, but sometimes people really are bi" etc. i guess that's asking too much from people who THEY THEMSELVES have had issues with their own sexuality as well!

it's just like when black folks on here told me to shut my ass up about being offended by my fave singer possibly saying "fuck all white people"...it's the same shit that happens on here all the time. people claim to be pro-equality, or anti-discrimination, and then will turn the other way and insult or disregard the idenities or sensitivities of other minorities or races or sexualities...and no, im not gonna say im sorry or im overreacting either...anyone else who wants to tell me to calm down this time can go fuck themselves...but only a GAY or STRAIGHT way, not BI! lol

You are hysterical.

I asked a simple question based on the fact that many in the gay community claim bi-sexuality when in fact they never were bi-sexual in the first place. Considering the stigma of homosexuality in the 80s combined with the AIDS crisis, it is not out of left field to consider the question of whether or not Freddy Mercury was an actual bi-sexual or claimed it simply because it lessened the judgment against him by society.

If you think that is wildly out of control you need to see a doctor lol

Nobody says it isn't. Reality is that many have hidden behind the label because of shame over being gay. That is real too.

Didn't Adorecream say that this thread was about artists who identify as gay?

If so people like:

Freddie Mercury

Ani DiFranco

Joan Jett

Antony Hegarty

Be left out? Right? Right?

Because it seems like people who THINK they're gay are using their own story to embellish that fact therefore making the thread off topic and ridiculous.

Dissing sexualities won't get you nowhere. lol

Now can we get back at the subject at hand? reading

Not fake at all. I can think you're not the brightest on one subject and still not think or say that you, as a whole person, are bad or need therapy or not super good looking in your photo. You are. 100%.

back to the topic.

what about Melissa Etheridge, people?! did i miss her being mentioned? i must say that "Im the Only one" is the theme song to any unrequited love, for me, of all time - gay OR straight (or bi if you count that as 'real' lol )
