v. interesting...

midwinter beats AATS and beekeeper?!?! NOOOOOOO

tbh i havent been able to sit through NOH so i can't include...even though i bought it and burned it for my friends...i can't get through the first 20 min

choirgirl

earthquakes

venus (good call on ranking that shit so high! most don't 'get' it i feel?)

aats

beekeeper

pink

...all others about tied biggrin

I listened to Midwinter Graces a lot over this past holiday season and it grew on me. The way she incorporated classic carols into new compositions was clever. Having said that, I still don't think any album below chorigirl on my list is all that great.

Extraordinary album, along with the b-sides. It was pivotal for me as a music fan, and it still resonates.

I've given it semi-retirement in recent years; one of those albums that I wore out. She sounds really young and the production is a bit dated here and there. I think she's gone on to make much stronger, better albums overall.

But there is something special about "Little Earthquakes" - just the sound of it, the utter braveness of it, the phenominal songwriting and her beautiful vocals. It captures a place in time and is a key album of the last quarter century.

My only frustration with it is that it seems to overshadow some of her later work, which is vastly underrated.

And Night of Hunters is absolutely incredible.. i have it on CD and vinyl and it took me a little time to really get into it, but once I did I've fallen completely in love with it.

All opinions respected, 100%. But I don't know very many people that will agree with you about that. Even amongst those crazy hard core Tori fans.

You might be surprised by that. I've been on the Tori Amos forums and they've done fan polls where they rank the albums. Choirgirl Hotel and Boys for Pele usually rank #1 and #2. Little Earthquakes is usually chosen the favorite by the more causal fans.

Both of which were recorded and released within six years of Little Earthquakes. There's been at least nine albums since then. lol

As I certainly don't consider myself a casual fan, I reserve the right to wholeheartedly disagree with all of those polls. biggrin Besides, if everyone voted the world would be a vastly different place. lol

Edit: Screen caps. I have 'em. confused

It's similar to the Baduizm effect...which I think is Erykah's weakest...

Im trying to think of other examples ... in most cases (minus Madonna, Jill Scott, a couple of others) and artist's first record is rarely their best

This is not my No 1 Tori album. What really got me into her was Under the Pink.

However, I couldn't live without the following tracks from this album to show my love for Tori and feel her body of work is complete for me:

Mother

Me & A Gun

Silent All These Years

China

Precious Things

Winter

Leather

Crucify

As the years have gone by, I've lost interest.

When the fairies were gone from the credits, coincidentaly some of her magic in her music/lyrics disappeared for me too.

I fell in love with the girl behind the piano, but I also enjoyed Hotel as mad. It's one of my top 3 now.

I got lost with Scarlet... Gold Dust was worth the album though.

Posse got me into her again, but after that, I lost her again...

For all fans of this album who haven't already seen it, I highly recommend the Live at Montreaux DVD/Blu-ray. It has one gig filmed before Little Earthquakes was released and another filmed soon after. Both are excellent.
